#3234 Suggestion: Blink on-board LED to during deploy

Posted by Eric Burdo on 30 September 2010 - 01:49 AM in General Discussion

I have a tiny bit of code I throw into each project I do. It just flashes the LED a couple times when the program starts. Kinda gives me a half-second "hey you" so I know the app is starting. But the flashing lid to signify activity... that would be kinda neat.

#3233 Works in Droid docking station

Posted by Eric Burdo on 30 September 2010 - 01:47 AM in General Discussion

NetDroidO? :) That's kinda cool. Be a neat form-factor for a project.

#3202 How to use the SD card and StreamWriter

Posted by Eric Burdo on 29 September 2010 - 07:58 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

You guys are great... something is reported and it's fixed in a week or so. :)

#3193 Netduino Plus Unable to connect to from MFDeploy or Visual Studio after loadi...

Posted by Eric Burdo on 29 September 2010 - 02:17 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

In the meantime, you may want to reflash with the regular Netduino firmware

Have you tried the re-flashing bit? I had this error happen a few times... reflashed (technically, I upgraded to the newest "approved" firmware, and the errors went away. Been working fine since then.

#3190 Transfer data in usb

Posted by Eric Burdo on 29 September 2010 - 12:57 PM in Netduino 2 (and Netduino 1)

Hi, This thread here might help: http://forums.netdui...er-interfacing/ Basically, the only USB communication right now, is via the Debug.Print command from your code... so no, not really. You currently can't talk back and forth with the Netduino and USB.

#3107 POE?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 28 September 2010 - 12:06 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

It will be nice to power the board through Power Over Ethernet.
It's an important feature that I really need on my domotic project, is it plane ?

I've never tried it... but you could start here:

http://www.freetroni...net-for-arduino

They also have a shield for PoE too.

#3059 Another forum thread?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 07:47 PM in General Discussion

How about just asking people to tag their projects with Netduino or Netduino Plus? Many of the projects can be built with either, as long as it doesn't use the built-in Ethernet or MicroSD.

#3057 Expansion shield - For the Netduino?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 07:38 PM in Netduino 2 (and Netduino 1)

Eric,

In theory it should--but I'd have to look at the existing driver code. We're actually working with MaceTech to provide C# drivers for their Centipede shield...

Chris

Oooh! http://macetech.com/...&products_id=23

I think I'll wait a bit then. :)

#3053 Expansion shield - For the Netduino?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 07:12 PM in Netduino 2 (and Netduino 1)

I just found this on the MakerShed site: http://www.makershed...ductCode=MKNTD1 Would it work with the Netduino too?

#3052 Wait...what's this?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 07:11 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

Hi ThreadAbort,

I posted a message on Wednesday to try to give 48 hours notice to the community members (so they could get first priority). We didn't want people to feel like we were spamming them by sending them an e-mail--but perhaps we should create an opt-in list for these sorts of things?

Last Wednesday's post

Thank you for your contributions and your enthusiasm. Did you give Proto-Advantage a call to see if there were any extras in their allocation batch?

Chris

Proto Advantage has them "on backorder" and have 12 available starting tomorrow (I ordered one). Hopefully nobody beats me to it... :P

I tried contacting MakerShed, but got no response yet... so went with Proto.

#3048 Wait...what's this?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 07:01 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

Try Proto-Advantage in canada (is nearer to you :D ) they said will ship starting 28 (tomorrow). It is marked in stock :)

Good luck! ;)

Yup... just placed an order. MakerShed never replied back to me... so Proto-Advantage it is!

#3047 Powering the NetDuino Plus

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 07:01 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

Yep, no chance of damage. It may or may not power it for too long, though. 9V batteries don't have much capacity.

Right... and it would also depend on if you are powering anything else with that too... like LED's or such.

#3042 Wait...what's this?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 06:16 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

You guys should have emailed the forum members on these first. We are the most active on the project and have the most to contribute.

I almost made the trip to NY Maker Faire. It was still an 8 hour drive for me.

About the same for me... but I had plans already, and couldn't get away.

I'm still trying to hunt down a Netduino Plus w/out paying a fortune in shipping...

#3024 Back from MakerFaire...

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 02:31 PM in General Discussion

In that picture, it looks like the USB cable from the laptop plugs back into itself. :)

#3018 Wait...what's this?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 01:57 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

There might be. There was a delivery delay on Proto-Advantage's Netduino Pluses and I think they cautiously listed a few fewer Netduino Pluses for sale than they were allocated. They ship to both Canada and the United States. I would write them and ask if they have any left. If they do, it'll just be a few--but that's your best bet.

I think MakerSHED pretty much sold all of theirs at MakerFaire NY over the weekend.

Chris

:( (I wish there was a crying icon). I would have bought from Proto if I'd known Maker was going to sell them on their site. The Plus would have been perfect for the presentation I'm doing end of October.

I'll call Proto and see if they happen to have any left in stock... Maybe I can scrounge on up that way.

#3015 Wait...what's this?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 01:46 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

@Chris - you mentioned in your other post that the Plus's sold out over the weekend... will MakerShed be selling any on their website? Or are folks who didn't attend the MakerFaire out of luck on buying one in the US?

#2977 Must to be sure

Posted by Eric Burdo on 27 September 2010 - 01:40 AM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

but would be interesting Netduino Plus could handle it.

You'd have to test it... I think the Netduino (or the Plus) would handle it... but I'll let someone with more experience say yeah/nay.

And you don't have to get those specific ones.. I just happened to find them quickly at SparkFun. There are plenty of places to buy stuff.

#2953 Must to be sure

Posted by Eric Burdo on 26 September 2010 - 08:01 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

I would like to hear about both of them, but very much depends on the money. I am not looking to invest hundreds of dollars for possible new hobby.

16x2 panels (and you can get them bigger) look something like this:

Posted Image

Here is the SparkFun LCD panel shown above. They are pretty easy to program with the Netduino (some good examples if you search the forums). They come in a few different colors...

A graphics screen... maybe something like this:
Posted Image

Here is the Sparkfun page for the above graphics screen. It's a PSP screen 4.3" - full color.

Not sure... I don't have one, so I haven't tried it yet. I think the Netduino could handle it... All depends on what you wanted it to do. Obviously the full color screens cost a lot more than the character LCD screens.

#2947 Anyone interested in an eagle version of the Netduino files?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 26 September 2010 - 07:07 PM in General Discussion

i might have to do a tutorial on how to solder it.

I'd love to see a tutorial on surface mount soldering...

#2945 Segmented LED Displays

Posted by Eric Burdo on 26 September 2010 - 07:04 PM in General Discussion

Hi Eric,
Maybe this example will help you get started:
http://geekswithblog...nking_leds.aspx

It shows how to use a shift register to talk with two 7 segment LED modules.

Thanks Szymon! I'll pick up a couple of shift registers this week (I don't have any in my collection of parts). I'm hoping the Netduino Plus shows up at MakerShed soon... I'll order everything from them.

#2944 Must to be sure

Posted by Eric Burdo on 26 September 2010 - 07:01 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

What kind of screen? Like a display screen (similar to a PSP or Nintendo DS) or like a LCD 16x2 panel?

#2920 Wait...what's this?

Posted by Eric Burdo on 26 September 2010 - 11:53 AM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

All sold out now.

Wow...

But... still no US vendor. :(

#2885 Buying or Acquiring Parts

#2882 Friends I need to get some basic knowledge

Posted by Eric Burdo on 25 September 2010 - 03:23 PM in General Discussion

For grins and giggles... anyone have code/breadboard plans to run a 7 segment number display w/out using a shift register?

I cobbled together something from some of the arduino tutorials, and some help from Google. :)

I'll write it all up and post it later this weekend.

#2881 Segmented LED Displays

Posted by Eric Burdo on 25 September 2010 - 03:22 PM in General Discussion

Found it... and here is the data page about it: http://www.datasheet.../LC5442-11 LEDs There is a datasheet there... I have like... 10 of these, soldered onto the deep fryer control boards. I've removed one... I'll be learning to read a data sheet, since most of it is greek to me. :) I got the 7 segment working (direct pin mapping) with the Netduino. I'll writeup that, and then start playing with this new piece.
