Chris, we do understand now that you are very busy with http://www.kickstart...-smartest-watch (nice project!) but please do not forget the other users of Netduino Plus 2. We desperately need the 4.3 firmware and some bugs fixed. Can you give us an estimate on how long we need to wait?

Now I read this, I am very disappointed in Nettduino Secret Labs.

edit: I was afraid Secret Labs would stop with support for 4.3 but that turned out not to be.

Have a look at GHI Electronics devices. They are still at 4.2, but this Developer page shows clearly the release status and known issues. It sure beats having to scan hundreds of posts in multiple forums to gain the same knowledge about the Netduino. They also don't appear to be distracted with a kickstarter and a watch.

We are happy to hear from Chris about 4.3 in a tweet:

We have the 4.3 firmware ready to go but are waiting on the .NET MF 4.3 QFE1 update to make it official. We're excited for 4.3 too.

Hi Chris, I have VS 2012 installed. I installed .Net Micro Framework 4.3 and Netudino 4.3.0.0. Both of these installed ok.

I have an Original Netduino Plus. I don't remember upgrading my firmware before (possibility I did shortly after I got it but that would be a good 2 years ago).

When I go into .Net Micro Framework Deploy, it says that Target->Device Capabilities is not supported. However, in the listing of items that are displayed when I hit this menu item I believe that I have running .Net MF 4.1.2821.0 Build date Nov 7, 2010

When I go into STDFUTester my device is not displayed.

Do I need to go up to 4.2 before trying to go to 4.3?

Thanks, John

No, just follow the steps in http://forums.netdui...re-v430-beta-1/ and everything works fine.

Hi elettrozero,

Hi all, this page http://netmf.codeple...ases/view/81000 states the 4.3 is in RTM release, does it mean that that's an out of beta release? Any news on ND+ / ND2+ 4.3 RTM release date?

Typically the .NET MF releases need a bit more testing (and a QFE release) after they go RTM, before they're ready for mass-usage. Think of RTM as "official release, tested amongst a few devices" and QFE1 as "tested more widely, ready for wider usage."

Our 4.3 beta firmware and release firmware is identical except for the core .NET MF source it is compiled against. We have been chatting with Microsoft regularly as they move towards a QFE1 release for .NET MF 4.3. Once that release happens, we'll quickly build a release candidate and then move towards "RTM".

For us, the "beta" tag is more about setting good expectations. We want to make sure that Netduino user don't move to a brand new release of the core platform until it has gotten some good testing in the field. .NET MF is a pretty awesome piece of technology, and we want you to have a good experience as it continues to evolve and gain new functionality.

Hi rol-co,

I have some serious problems to deploy a hex file in to the Nd plus 2 with beta 4.3 firmware, i'm getting this error

So sorry for the troubles. There is a timing bug in .NET MF 4.3 which can cause these issues with boards running earlier versions of .NET MF firmware.

Until .NET MF 4.3 QFE1 is out, I recommend using an older version of MFDeploy if your computer experiences these kinds of issues.

Please try downloading the following special release of MFDeploy and let me know if it fixes the issue for you:
http://forums.netdui...b-and-com1com2/

Thank you,

Chris

Hi JoopC,

Strange is also that the USB driver is from long ago:

Quick note on the USB drivers: those don't change very often. With new releases of NETMF, we're actually using the built-in WinUSB drivers in Windows itself. Because we want to use the stable drivers, the version # and date doesn't necessarily change with new releases. Chris

Thanks JoopC for your reply.

I went ahead and redownloaded .Net MicroFramework 4.3 and Netduino 4.3

I found MFDeploy was a little stuborn ... get lots of "unsupported" and I chose different menu items. However, I did find that by hitting Device Info and then Device Capablities I was able to get it to display. It says that my version was 4.1.0.5

When I go into STDFUTester (v3.0.1) their are no devices showing.

Steps:

1. On NetduinoPlus I hold down the pushbutton and plug usb into my computer

2. then I start STDFUTester

Nothing displays

I unplugged my NetduinoPlus and then replugged (with STDFUTester still running)....still nothing displays under devices

Can someone help with how to "Wake up my device" in STDFUTester?

Thanks, John

The gen1 Netduinos have significantly less flash storage space, so we're not sure yet if we can upgrade them to .NET MF 4.3. Once we test the upcoming .NET MF 4.3 QFE1 release, we'll have a better idea as to whether or not the upgrade will be too big. We're going to try to squeeze it in. Just FYI--the gen1 Netduinos use an Atmel microcontroller and the gen2 Netduinos use an ST microcontroller. They each have different native flashing procedures--so a gen1 board will need SAM-BA instead of STDFU tools. I'll ping Microsoft again on QFE1 to see how it's coming along. We too are excited about the upgrade--especially regarding the new lwIP stack. Chris

Hi GeBrander, JoopC, emg:

please do not forget the other users of Netduino Plus 2. We desperately need the 4.3 firmware.

We are here for you. There are so many posts on the Netduino forums that sometimes I don't realize someone has asked for me to respond to something directly--so my apologizes for not seeing this thread before the weekend. I would have been happy to provide some guidance a few days ago. To clarify, .NET MF 4.3 is still in beta. We worked very quickly to support the first beta firmware (based on the .NET MF 4.3 RTM PK) and we are in regular communication with Microsoft as they progress towards the first wide release (.NET MF 4.3 QFE1). I wish that we could do the work here, to move .NET MF 4.3 from beta to production. I know that waiting is no fun. In the meantime, we do recommend that developers stick with the production .NET MF 4.2 firmware unless they want to test the 4.3 beta. One quick note: we are excited to have a new, third NETMF-powered family at Secret Labs (the AGENT smartwatch). That product line will have its own resources, and we will continue giving Netduino the love and attention it deserves to grow both within gen2 and beyond. Right now we've been hit with a massive amount of inquiries regarding AGENT and we're a bit inundated with e-mails and requests from around the world; I apologize if our responses are a bit slower than usual (either here or for AGENT backers) because of that. We're catching up and staffing up where necessary, to make sure that we can support your needs. Chris

Hello, does this new firmware include support for wireless devices? I read through some posts from 2010 saying that wireless would be on it's way but the conversation fizzles out after some time.

Currently i have a wishield v2.0 from asynclabs(datasheet says SPI type device)which should be a good candidate for wireless on the netduino. Will there be support for this device in the future?

Thank you

Thanks for the update Chris, I'm glad the ND2 has not lost your attention :) That being said, is this solved in the new software?

http://forums.netdui...s-with-a-video/

This is really annoying, can't get the whole thing stable.

+1 on the answer to this. My ND2 is sitting unused at the moment.

Hi neographikal, richy759: The RTM release of the 4.3 firmware is slated to include the much newer lwIP networking stack, which fixes quite a few networking bugs. We're just waiting on .NET MF 4.3 QFE1 at this point, and are looking forward to integrating this new stack. Chris

Better wait and have all the bugs fixed than half-finished  humpie dumpie code.

I agree with JoopC.

I completed my project on N+2, but networking problems with 4.2.2 do not allow me to use it in production.

I switched off all N+2, waiting for 4.3.

Is there a list of fixes already?
