#62580 XBee PWM Failed Allocation for 5 Blocks

Posted by Chris Walker on 10 May 2015 - 06:46 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

Hi sjmill01,

Based on your observations, My first guess is that the PWM pulse is queuing up so many interrupts that you're running out of memory.

If you slow things down, does everything work fine?

If you simply read from an InputPort in a loop instead of using an InterruptPort, does that work well for your application?

#62806 WPA2 PSK

Posted by Chris Walker on 22 May 2015 - 11:01 PM in Netduino 3

Hi Brian,

Listen to DevBiker: he is wise :)

Sorry, I should have thought of and mentioned this earlier... [Thank you DevBiker!]

Netduino 3 and Netduino.IP support advanced power management. If you don't deploy code to the board, it won't start up the networking chip.

In other words, you won't see any ACT LED activity until an actual app is running on the board.

Question:
If you deploy an app to your board, does it connect to the network?

#62808 WPA2 PSK

Posted by Chris Walker on 22 May 2015 - 11:06 PM in Netduino 3

I just deployed an empty app and it lit up.  *sigh of relief*  Thanks!

Woot! :)

Now onto some ssl/smtp fun.

Oh, please share more info! I'd love to read about your SSL/SMTP adventures in a new thread.

#62784 WPA2 PSK

Posted by Chris Walker on 22 May 2015 - 02:17 AM in Netduino 3

Hi bingenito,

WPAPSK should be the default. Just enter your SSID and passphrase, and you should be good to go.

If you're not seeing a yellow ACT light after powering up your board, then something's askew.

If you change the SSID/passphrase, do you get a yellow light? What happens when you then change back to your real network config?

Let's get you up and running here...

#63270 Won't enter bootloader mode

Posted by Chris Walker on 27 June 2015 - 03:48 AM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

Hi spdygnlz,

If you see 5V on one side of the LED and a lower voltage on the other, the LED could be damaged.

If you hold down the pushbutton while powering up the Netduino with your PC...do you see _anything_ pop up in Device Manager?

#63233 Won't enter bootloader mode

Posted by Chris Walker on 25 June 2015 - 12:57 AM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

Hi spdygnlz,

If the blue LED isn't turning on when you power it up, something has gotten fried on the board. Was your motor shield drawing motor current from the mainboard...or were you just using the Netduino for servo/motor signaling/speed control?

That said, there is a small chance that something else is afoot. The blue LED could have just burnt out.

If you measure the voltage between a GND header pin and the two sides of your LED, you should see 5V and GND (on the two different sides of the LED). If that is the case then the LED is burnt out and we may be able to help diagnose your board further. Or if you have a spare LED (a typical through-hole LED, with two legs), press one leg to each side of the blue LED (so that it's getting the same current source as the LED)--and see if the LED illuminates during power-up.

#63195 Won't enter bootloader mode

Posted by Chris Walker on 18 June 2015 - 01:16 AM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

Hi spdygnlz,

With a Netduino mainboard, both the white LED and blue LED will turn on during power-up. If you hold the pushbutton during power-up the blue LED will remain on (since it's in bootloader mode...and therefore never starts an app).

If you hold the pushbutton while powering up your Netduino Plus 2, does it show up in Device Manager then?

Is it still in its original box? Was anything plugged into it? What were you using with it last time you used it?

If not...it may be that your Netduino got damaged somehow (or died, which is rare...but I'll never say never...). :( :( :(

#62489 Windows Virtual Shields for Netduino?

Posted by Chris Walker on 06 May 2015 - 08:13 PM in General Discussion

Hi perpetualKid,

Windows' Virtual Shields basically uses your phone's sensors as virtual I/O (think GoBus for Windows).

We already built a prototype implementation of "Remote Netduino" (using the more powerful GoBus instead of Firmata)--and recommended these features to Microsoft a while ago... It's great to see some of these scenarios getting adopted and publicized in the IoT cores already--and recruiting some non-MS devs over to the awesome MSFT IoT world :)

Let us know what scenarios you'd like to enable with Netduino and Windows Phone (or Windows 10 and Netduino), and I'll see what we can make happen for you guys...

[Also...Netduino is open source...so if someone has a spare weekend... perpetualKid, if you'd like to be involved with coding or beta testing, please PM me; we'd love your help!]

#62213 Will you release any build on NETMF 4.4?

Posted by Chris Walker on 21 April 2015 - 05:37 PM in Beta Firmware and Drivers

Hey Fredde,

Yup, all Netduino gen2 boards will be getting upgraded 4.4 firmware. [If some community members want to pitch inand create a managed networking driver for Netduino Plus 1, we can probably also upgrade that board to 4.4 using Netduino.IP.]

It's still in a pre-beta-ish phase, but we've been working closely with Redmond on it. Lots of good stuff to come with 4.4 (both SDK and firmware).

#63073 WiFi not working

Posted by Chris Walker on 08 June 2015 - 05:52 AM in Netduino 3

Hi teek,

When you run your app, does the ACT LED light up on your board? Is it amber (not connected/connecting) or green (connected)?

Did you set your Wi-Fi SSID and WPA2 passphrase using MFDeploy?

Welcome to the Netduino community,

Chris

#63180 WiFi Connection steps problem

Posted by Chris Walker on 16 June 2015 - 07:47 PM in Netduino 3

Hi Gigios,

If you're using WEP, I believe that you want to use the passphrase (and not the key).

Does that help get you up and running?

Chris

#63079 WiFi Connection steps problem

Posted by Chris Walker on 08 June 2015 - 06:04 PM in Netduino 3

Hi thkaw,

Have you deployed an app to your Netduino? Netduino 3 and Netduino.IP support power management--and so they keep the Wi-Fi chip in hibernate state until an app is running.

[In the future we may expand this power management to keep the Wi-Fi chip in hibernate unless/until networking code is needed...providing more available current for projects which don't use networking.]

Welcome to the Netduino community,

Chris

#62372 Wi-Fi module

Posted by Chris Walker on 01 May 2015 - 10:22 PM in Netduino Go

That would be pretty cool. If we get at least 100 requests, we could certainly do that.

CC3100 already uses a Netduino.IP hybrid stack, so it would be easy to hook up software-wise.

Nothing to announce officially today, but we are also working on sort of a GoBus SDK--so this is also a hardware add-on that community members could build in the future.

#63516 Why not clock it @ 180MHz?

Posted by Chris Walker on 14 July 2015 - 04:34 PM in Netduino 3

Hey xc2rx,

You're welcome to hack your board to tweak speed settings. There are two main reasons why Netduino 3 is running at 168MHz (instead of clocked up to 180MHz).

The first reason is SPI bus speed. The SPI bus uses a divider to clock peripherals. While 180MHz might make it sound like that would enable faster communication with devices, some devices run at 21MHz. A 168MHz main clock allows a 21MHz SPI clock speed whereas a 180MHz main clock drops that speed to 11.25MHz (since 22.5MHz would be too fast for those devices).

The second reason is because of concerns over USB reliability. In the past there has been some concern about the core clock settings and multipliers not providing the correct USB clock. This may be an issue which has been solved in recent STM32F4 chip revisions--but to date our engineering team has not signed off on use of an 180MHz clock with USB peripherals. [And yes, we have seen other solutions driving USB with an 180MHz main clock...but we over-engineer things around here.]

If we get comfortable with an 180MHz clock by default, we may tweak this via a firmware update (or a board revision which changes the crystal speed) in the future. But for now, we recommend and use 168MHz.

#60879 Why is this not working? V C# 2010 with Netduino 2.

Posted by Chris Walker on 06 December 2014 - 12:34 AM in Netduino 2 (and Netduino 1)

Hi david,

What error are you getting, exactly? Any chance you can simplify the solution down a bit and we can try to help bug hunt here...?

#63792 Why do I have to reboot my device to change the IP address?

Posted by Chris Walker on 06 August 2015 - 04:47 AM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

Hey cSharper,

There are some limitations in NETMF and/or the lwIP integration regarding change of IP.

With Netduino.IP, we'll be able to get overcome some of those. We're currently working on a way to change IP settings on the fly. It's not ready to go today--but we should be able to include it in a firmware update later this year. Then you'll get the benefit of a managed code network stack and the ability to change IP settings on the fly :)

#61361 Which software do I need to program Netduino 2

Posted by Chris Walker on 25 January 2015 - 10:03 AM in General Discussion

Hi johanpp,

Grab a free copy of Visual C# Express (or Visual Studio Express for Windows Desktop) and you should be good to go.

Here is a link to the main downloads, for your convenience:

#63291 Which NETMF.Hardware DLL For Netduino 2?

Posted by Chris Walker on 28 June 2015 - 08:20 PM in Netduino 2 (and Netduino 1)

Hi DiverBW,

With NETMF 4.3 and newer, we made it even simpler :)

Just use:
SecretLabs.NETMF.Hardware.Netduino.dll

Every gen2+ mainboard now has an assembly of the same name pre-deployed to it, and your code will automatically map to the correct pins. This is part of the new "Netduino Application (Universal)" template setup.

#60867 Which Micro SD Cards will work

Posted by Chris Walker on 04 December 2014 - 09:13 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

The open MMC/SD standard is "up to 2GB", so we do recommend using a <=2GB card.

#64235 where is the new 4.4 netMF update? Why does it take so long?

Posted by Chris Walker on 05 October 2015 - 07:24 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

They're a super-busy bunch of folks in Redmond. Tasked with both NETMF 4.4 and Llilum, the NETMF team has a reasonably sized team working on this--but so much to do.

Also...thanks to everyone in Redmond for all the fish. :)

#63054 Where is PWM class in 4.2.1

Posted by Chris Walker on 05 June 2015 - 04:29 AM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

Hi Direstraits,

Because of the new PWM class in NETMF 4.2+, we have removed the legacy PWM class from the main DLLs. But it's still there...you just need to add "SecretLabs.NETMF.Hardware.PWM.dll" as an assembly to your project.

Does that get you up and running?

Welcome to the Netduino community,

Chris
