Perspex (a brand name of Acrylic) like most acrylic sheets can build up static electricity. Unless you are running it in a very dry environment where you have fans that can move ions around quite a bit it is unlikely it will ever build enough static to damage anything.
I use acrylic for all of my casings and we are subjecting Pandora's Box to high EMF and Static Charge very often and haven't ever encountered an issue.

you should be fine I think, its the discharge that kills. I mount mine on acrylic with nylon standoffs. the arduino R3 footprint is not so PEM friendly near around the or I would have done it in sheet metal!
