Hello All.

I was working just fine with my NP2 deploying an SPI application (to program the MRF24J40 Transceiver from Microchip) when suddenly it stopped working. When I plug it into the PC now, nothing happens (i cannot see it in the device manager). ALL leds are ON (the blue and the white).

I was powering the radio using the 3.3V from the Netduino. All SPI pins (11-13) were connected well, I was using Pin5 for the Chip Select (active low) and Pin6 for a simple reset operation  called only once at startup. That is all.

I had already deployed the application 3 times and then Visual Studio suddenly could not deploy anymore. Then I realised all this.

Can someone tell me how I can fix this?

NB: I do have a Netduino which is recognised well. I also own a Netduino 2 but I have not yet tested it.

first of all, don't use caps, this will make this forum much nicer for everyone

i think redeploying the firmware should fix the problem, Chris has a pretty good tutorial on this.

Greetings

Martin2250,

The thing is I cant see the netduino on the PC! When  you plug in, nothing happens on the PC to show that its in. Even trying to get it into bootloader mode gives the same result. The two leds are ALWAYS on, bootloader mode or not and the device doesn't appear in the device manager.

If your app has somehow accidentally locked out the debugger, then plugging in the board won't necessarily make anything appear on your PC. Try holding down the pushbutton on your Netduino Plus 2. Then power it up by plugging it into your PC using USB. You should get a device in Device Manager; what does that device entry call itself? [NOTE: it won't show up in Visual Studio or MFDeploy in this state...but it will show up in the ST DFUSE tools.] If that doesn't work, please disconnect everything from your Netduino first. It's possible that an accessory is pulling too much power and the main chip can't boot properly. Chris

I had already tried all that before posting. The basic problem is: when I plug in the netduino, button held down or not, the two LEDS light up and STAY on, and nothing else happens. No entry in the device manager whatsoever. The device manager usually enumerates all devices once a new device is plugged in via USB by refreshing itself, in my case, it does not do that. It is as if the Netduino is only receiving power and that is all :-)

Hi mbyamukama, Does the microcontroller get hot when you plug in the board? Is anything plugged into the Netduino? What was plugged into it when it stopped working? Let's see what we can do to get you back up and running. Chris

Hello Chris.

Thank you for the fast response.

1. NO, the microcontroller does NOT get hot. Infact, nothing gets hot on the board.

2. There is nothing plugged into the Netduino.

3.  When all this happened, there was an MRF24J40 transceiver connected to the board, and getting power from the 3.3V pin. It uses an SPI interface so all the SPI pins were connected as well as PIN6 acting as the CS pin.

4. The first time I connected the transceiver, I loaded the program successfully but I could tell i was sucking out quite some power because the power LED did dim a bit. After that, I could not debug anymore.

That's it! I would really hate to lose my Plus 2!
