Unfortunately, as it's a joint endeavor (Atmel+Microsoft+Secret Labs) I don't know 100% for sure. We're _really_ close...but it's that last 1-10% that seems to take forever.

Has there been any progress on this since?? Would really like to use Serial over USB on Netduino. Thanks!

Yep would be interesting. I am waiting for this feature more than a year now.

Hi Bill, Jim: There are a limited number of endpipes...and a few things that need to be taken care of in the core firmware to prevent non-responsive situations (i.e. USB asks for data and gets none--even when you're not using the extra features). There is work being done on this, to see what can be done. There are a few factors to balance out (driver installation issues, RAM requirements, etc.), but perhaps we could always make an alternate firmware available with these features...for users who want them. I know some folks got HID working some time back, so if the goal is 'communicate over the usb' connection anyway possible, that would work.  But if the goal is 'communicate over the usb exactly and specifically via serial emulation' then I dont think this was done yet.  In a way HID may be more usable since you won't have to install a driver, but maybe thats not a big deal for you depending on your application.

Its also worth bearing in mind that if you use the USB this way, then you will not be using it for debug/deploy.
