According to Microsoft's Judith Bishop, Director of Computer Science, Microsoft Research Connections: ".NET Gadgeteer will be available to the public mid-year 2011." ( http://blogs.msdn.co...-at-sigcse.aspx )

Here is a nice video, 50% MicroFramework 50% .NET Gadgeteer: http://channel9.msdn...t/NET-Gadgeteer

Are there any plans to make the Netduino compatible with the Gadgeteer (a shield perhaps)?

Hi Jonny, I flew over to Cambridge (UK) about a year ago to meet with the Gadgeteer team (at Microsoft Research) and already started this conversation. :) We have some ideas on how to take the cool concepts in Gadgeteer and incorporate them into a really cool family of Netduino accessories. The Microsoft Research team is still sorting out some of the particulars regarding licensing...but as long as we can do it in an open source way you'll be seeing some Gadgeteer+Netduino action in time. I'd share more, but there are some exciting tidbits in there that will be fun surprises. :) Chris

Colin Miller's blog post: .NET Gadgeteer Live as an Open Source Project.

CW2, thanks for posting this!

We've been working behind the scenes a bit on this over the last year. I'm really glad that Microsoft has been able to open source .NET Gadgeteer.

Now the fun part...getting hardware ready and working out the user experience...begins :)

Who wants a Gadgeteer shield for their Netduino? Please raise your hand.

Raised! :D

So it's actually a kind of universal bus. Cool :) (trying to look at it at a simple way)

Excellent. Too many interesting Microsoft Research projects come to nothing, so it's good to see one look like it's reaching end users. A shield sounds interesting. Is the idea that the Netduino will be the mainboard, or that we can create Netduino-based modules, or both?

The idea is that a Netduino will be the main board. Custom .NET Gadgeteer accessories would just plug in, since they use standardized header configurations. More on that soon...we have some ideas :D

We anticipate that Netduino shields will be the preferred format for accessorizing Netduinos, but part of the beauty of open source is that this will enable lots of new options.

I'd like one. Looks like it would be a great way to open up an additional source of compatible sensors and other components

+1 for Netduino .NET Gadgeteer shield. .NET Gadgeteer seems to be exactly what I've been looking for -- an easy-to-use interface for sensors and other gadgets is a must.
