I don't know enough yet to write this on my own, but has this been looked at for the netduino? I need more UART than are on the board, and almost all the other ports are used as well for my project. Anyone working on a softserial implementation?

Hi Johnny Five, How many UARTs do you need? Have you thought about using a SPI-to-Serial converter chip? Chris

Hello Chris, I (think) I need 3 UART altogether. Someone mentioned that I could use an SPI-2-UART, but can SPI handle multiple devices? I am using the SDCard shield, and afaik the pins 11-13 are already being used by it.

Yes, absolutely. Pins 11-13 are shared amongst all your SPI devices. You need to use one "chip select" pin per device.

There might also be I2C-to-UART devices available--although those might be a bit speed limited. Hundreds of devices can share the 2 I2C pins (AD4/AD5).
