I'm sold! When will an ethernet shield be available?

mavromatis, welcome to the forums!

We're working on it :)

There are a few Ethernet shields out there now; we just need to find one that's high quality and write drivers for it. Also, since .NET Micro Framework supports lwIP there might be some things we can do with a really rich networking stack.

Stay tuned,

Chris

P.S. I see that GHI Electronics is selling an Ethernet Shield and provides prototype source C# drivers for .NET MF. Maybe or maybe not open source, but worth a look if they'll let you use it on any board.

P.S. On shields generally...we've tested quite a few, and will be providing a compatibility list in the next few weeks (along with open-source drivers for things like SD cards, real-time clocks, etc.). Also, the Colorimeter project from Harford Hackerspace uses the Adafruit prototyping shield--so that's a go for sure.

I've used the (very beta) GHI Ethernet drive with my FEZ, it it works pretty well once it gets going. It's not perfect though and occasionally has issues.

Supporting the GHI one would be great... I use the Arduino Ethernet Shields right now, these are based on the Wiznet W5100 chipset. I would suggest adding drivers for this (which seems to be the same as the GHI version). Here is a project I'm working on: http://www.mavromati...no-mega-part-2/ What really excites me with the Netduino is the amount of RAM... 60KB! Danny

Chris, Have you seen this shield? http://www.micro4you...d/prod_119.html Since NETMF porting kit does have source code for the enc28j60, it seems like it wouldn't be that hard to integrate into the HAL. If I were to try this myself, it would be nice to know what ARM compiler you used to build your port. The source zip doesn't have any documentation with it. Thanks, --Dave

I also have a ENC28J60 based shield as well... so I'm open to either the Wiznet W5100 or the ENC28J60 support. I really need networking support to make the Netduino switch...

Unless a deal was worked with GHI, their driver is only licensed to be used with their products.

Interesting, as the board looks like a direct copy of the Arduino Ethernet Shield, oh well... Shouldn't be long before netduino has a ethernet stack -- at least I hope not...

It is a direct copy of the Arduino shield -- or at least to what I could tell.

When they say "their products", I think they mean the main micro controller board, not the shield.

Your wish has been partially fulfilled. Here you go:
http://forums.netdui...hernet-shields/

Please note that this is incomplete, experimental support for the Wiznet shields.

Chris
