Hello,
We are looking into designing a custom board compatible with the Netduino Plus firmware. Our usual suppliers don't seem to carry the Davicom PHY and we are thus considering alternatives. Browsing through the firmware source I see that there is initialization code for this chip. Am I am correct in assuming that switching the PHY would require new initialization code? Are there any other PHYs available that can be swapped in without firmware changes?
Thanks!

Hi spicyclam,
You can certainly use another PHY on a custom design...but you will probably need to adjust the PHY initialization code.
If you contact Davicom sales, they can hopefully line you up with a local distributor.

Hi
I'm also intererested in using other PHY with the netduino .NET MFW port.
Do you have any idea how this initialization code is changed, and if this job is hard or easy?
Thanks !

Hi Kåre,
There's a PHY support class in the .NET Micro Framework source. It'd probably take a few days, max. It's probably only a few hundred lines of code. And many PHYs are similar--so it may be even quicker/easier than that.

Is the standard used between the Davicom PHY and the SAM7 MII or RMII?
