Hi I'd just like to communicate this feedback concerning the recently released Netduino SDK 4.3.2.1 (May 2015).

Issue:  Device Driver NOT Found (i.e. for the Netduino)

My environment:

  • Windows 7 x64
  • Netduino Plus 2

Prior to installing Netduino SDK 4.3.2.1 I had Netduino SDK 4.3.1 on my computer.  I just did an install of the new SDK without uninstalling the old one beforehand.  I watched the installation proceed and saw that it posted a message about adjusting (probably a different word) the existing installation.  After the installation I saw in Programs & Features (Control Panel) that the Netduino SDK version number got bumped to the new version and that there was only 1 Netduino SDK registered.

AFTER doing this, when I attached my NP2 to the computer via the serial cable, I got a Windows error message stating that it could not find the driver for my device.  A reboot of the computer did not resolve the issue.

Consequently, I uninstalled the Netduino SDK, rebooted the computer, and then installed it again.  After doing this, when I plugged in the NP2, it WAS able to find and setup the device driver.  This RESOLVED the problem for me.

Hope that the problem was just isolated to me.  But if not, hope this is helpful to others.

Hi TechnoGuy,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

The Netduino SDK installed (built with WiX) is designed to auto-uninstall the old SDK (if present) before installing the new SDK. But if it un-installs drivers in the process it should re-install the drivers again.

We'll do some more extensive testing on this to see if we can figure out what's going on with the WiX installer.

As you mentioned, uninstalling the SDK and then installing the new SDK (or repairing the new SDK) should also fix the issue. But let's see if we can figure out why that was necessary in the first place...

Thanks again, TechnoGuy.

Sounds like the exact thing that happened to me as well while installing the new SDK. No driver was found for the Netduino, and I think I fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling the new SDK.
