Jumper wires

i'm wondering when to use a female jumper wire or a male jumper wire. I have purchased myself a netduino 2 microcontroller and also an LCD screen plus an ultrasonic sensor. But the problem is i want to connect these devices but don't know which jumper wire to purchase before i can connect my netduino to the sensor or the LCD.

Help pls....

Buy both! You're going to need them sooner or later, and they are cheap.

You'll need the male ones for connecting the Netduino to a breadboard, and from there it depends on your LCD and sensor. 

Couldn't agree more! I would even go so far as to say you need all three cobinations: M/M, M/F, and F/F jumpers. They've all come in handy at one time or another.

If you are going to need a lot of jumper wires, and you want different ends or lengths, I recomend buying a crimp tool and crimp pins. (Click on the related products tab on the page to see the range.)

I have now built up a selection of housings and regularly make up leads to plug things into my boards.

The shells allow male or female pins to be collected together in single or multiple rows.

The tool is expensive compared with a packet of jumper wires, but much more flexible.

I was initially trying to crimp them by hand - it can be done, but takes a long time to do each one with pliars.

When I make my own boards (normally on vero board) I don't solder wires directly to the board anymore, I just put on a 0.1" pitch header and crimp some leads to connect it up.

If you are in the UK, I can recomend Hobbytronics, I have bought lots of items from them without issue, including a pack of 70 mixed jumper wires.
