Dear community,

After waiting for two years its now time to say farewell to my Netduino GO setup.

There is still no actual news or evidence that anyone is working on the promised network modules or SD card modules, both being introduced well into 2012 and no real sign that SL is doing anything.

Sorry Chris but promises only last so far and the only new thing we have seen so far is the Beta 7 for the shield base and some simple modules. Seeing that all other Netduino products are getting their updates and the GO is still rendered as a zombie product I only can see that the end is there.

So if anyone is interested I have several modules for sale:

1 * Go mainboard

2 Shieldbase modules,

5 button modules,

1 Peizo module,

2 Potentiometer modules,

3 RGB led modules.

I am currently deciding where to move my project:

Option 1 is the  Intel Galileo board or maybe 2 Arduino Yun boards.

Good luck with the Go.

Cheers Olaf

Hi,

Just sent me a PM about what you want.

Just so you know I am located in the Netherlands so shipping out side Europe is probably not cost effective.

And the coming week I am not @ home because I am attending Microsoft's Tech Days in the Netherlands

I wish they would at least accept a trade in for those that invested in the GO.  I'm with you.  i thought getting the GO would be the cutting edge of Netduino products, but it looks like their sites are set on working on other products.  Disappointing.

Hi Dracarnion,

A bit off-topic, but just FYI: we have several cool new GoBus accessories designed and in queue for launch.

We deliberately chose to not pre-announce specifics because we believe it's better to ship first...especially since it can take several months to go from "hardware design complete" to "in stock" (firmware, dependencies, regulatory, component procurement, assembly and testing, etc.)

Chris,

That queue is already 2years old by now.

About specifying what to come is completely out of context because in 2012 the network and sd card modules where announced.

Based on these assumptions people have bought your products.

More then a 1.5 years the product page shows "available soon" so we are not talking about months.

I have asked several times to remove that sentence because its totally untrue and you are misleading in to buying something.

So yes you have deliberately announced products and mislead the customers.

So dont try to turn it around.

Best regards.

Olaf

Here we go this part makes my hair stand up:

"We deliberately chose to not pre-announce specifics because we believe it's better to ship first."

Three examples from announcements in November 2012:

"Today we introduce the Gadgeteer Adapter module for Netduino Go. 4 Gadgeteer sockets, $14.95, available in November."

"SD Card modules have arrived, and we'll be posting a firmware update to support them soon (within a few weeks). We didn't want to ship them this weekend and have users disappointed that the supporting firmware wasn't available yet...but we'll be releasing them to resellers shortly."

"For those who would like to help us do final performance testing, we're giving out a limited number of free samples at MakerFaire NY. The beta program starts in November and works with all existing Netduino Go mainboards."

So where are they ?

Best regards,

Olaf van Schoten

Hey Olaf,

Sorry for confusing things there...I was referring to the new modules which we haven't announced yet. We have all the parts for nine new modules in stock right now (and in some cases fully-assembled modules).

Included in that are 1000 SD Card modules and about 900 Gadgeteer Adapter modules which we assembled back in 2012, expecting to get good performance out of them with non-standard firmware (using GoBus 1.0). It turned out that that firmware didn't meet our performance specs, so we have been storing those two modules for a while, waiting to upgrade them to GoBus 1.5 firmware.

We will be rolling out a number of new GoBus modules later this year. The Ethernet and SD Card modules will not be in the first wave, but we are working on getting them out as part of the larger set of shipments.

Sorry for your frustration. Sorry that the accessories for Netduino Go have been a lot slower to come to market than we had hoped. We're looking forward to getting more gear out there, and giving your hardware more cool things to plug into.

Chris

Hi Chris,

After I have been on the Tech Days and have seen what is in store for the .netMF I will take a step back and wait and see what you come up with.

If Intel and Microsoft are going to push forward with the integration of windows on the new speedier platform it could well be that the current Netduino hardware is over run by alot more beefier hardware pushed by Intel.

Cheers Olaf

Hello!

Chris does this mean if I carefully raise the subject at the next Maker Faire, I'll be able to participate in that side of the Netduino world? (Mainboard and actual devices.) Or was that from Last Year's events?

Hello Everyone,

Anyone noticed that the "Coming soon"  for the Ether Go Adapter and SD Shield has changed on the Hardware page.

It now states: "currently in design"

Maybe legal found that it could be a bit misleading after two years

Check the input and output section of the hardware page and then look at the GO section.

http://www.netduino.com/hardware/

It states:

add-on: ethernet gobus module
currently in design

tpixel.gifadd-on: sd card gobus module
currently in design

this is the old page :)

I gave up on that page because the ethernet module is not even mentioned there and the stuff from nwazet is not for sale anymore.

Hey Olaf,

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. We've done a pretty terrible job of describing how we're launching the new gobus gear. I'm sorry about that. Let me clear things up a bit.

With NETMF 4.3, we've been having some issues with the networking stack. So we called up the NETMF team and made a plan and we've been attacking a whole bunch of networking bugs. There's a lot of new code and we are currently component-testing each piece of the stack to release the most robust networking stack for NETMF to date.

The Ethernet module has some dependencies which rely on the updated networking stack. We've also made some hardware changes to the module and we need to validate those changes once the updated stack is in place.

In total, we've invested several months of software engineering into working on the network stack. This is largely boring stuff and behind the scenes, so we haven't talked about it publicly. We like to surprise people with cool new things...and we forget that silence can be misunderstood as neglect.

Once we ship the Netduino 4.3.2 networking fix, our engineers will go back to finishing up the Ethernet module integration. We'll be updating Netduino Go to use a newer GoBus 2.0 stack. And then we'll have a really awesome solution.

That new hardware is going to take a little while from now to get out. We do not want to ship hardware which does not perform well. We really, really care about quality and user experience. I know that the demand is huge for the Ethernet module and we're fully dedicated to both GoBus technology and to getting more modules out ASAP.

P.S. On the webpage: we should have updated the page a lot earlier, when we decided to respin the module, with the latest status. Sometimes web pages "rot" a bit and I apologize for that. The current status is the latest, most correct info...and I'll keep you awesome folks updated as we get closer to shipping the Ethernet module.

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and for belonging to the Netduino community,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you again for your update.

Could you please check your PM because the shipment could have been underway for 48 hours now.

Cheers

Olaf

This all sounds very promising, I hope it sees the light of day.   GoBus concept is very solid, but progress has been hideously slow.

Hi neslekkim,

But are any work beeing done on getting this out in an public repository?

We'll be posting the 4.3.2 firmware source as a ZIP file. We're looking at repository issues, but the first priority is opening sourcing the new code. I too would love to see it all in a public repository.

The new code will be Apache 2.0 licensed, as usual.

Chris
