How to Deploy code to Production

What is the proper way to deploy code to the device when you don't want it to be in debug mode?

I right-clicked on the project and hit deploy. but the code did not seem to run till I changed the mode to "release" and then ran the code which attached the debugger.  At that point I can stop the project and disconnect the device from my computer and it seems to be working on its own.

Then my next question is, if I then need to run the code with the debugger attached again, is there anything else that needs to be done to remove the or overwrite the production code that has been deployed.
