Hi Vincent, Are you wanting to build a few for yourself, for friends, for work, etc.? You can embed a Netduino Plus in your copies. Or use the smaller, industrial-temp-rated Netduino Mini. Or use the Netduino layout files as a basis for your custom board, etc. Chris

Actually I want to make few copies for myself and few for friends. So the total count goes around 15. I am looking out for creating a custom board. Is there any plan to make eagle schema available? Due to the difficulty in customizing existing layout I guess I'll have to go for netduino mini. Right? Regards Vincent

Hi VincentA,

Unfortunately, Eagle can only read files made in Eagle and the free version can only do simpler 2-layer boards. The board layout is available on the downloads page though.

I guess I'll have to go for netduino mini. Right?

The Netduino Mini is designed to be a good fit for this type of situation. You can design a 2-layer board in Eagle which houses all of your components and then drop the module into a 24-pin DIP soldering area.

... Except the Netduino Mini doesn't have any ethernet capabilities of its own, so you'll also have to implement circuitry for a Wiznet chip and accept a performance hit.

For the current builds I havent used any ethernet capability so it doesnt make any difference.

Interesting, why do you think the performance will have a hit if circurtary for a wiznet chip is implemented?

Vincent,

Networking via SPI is much slower than the fast native networking built into the Netduino Plus. Native networking is up to ~1Mbps. SPI-based networking is more on the scale of Kbps.

Chris, So, if you wanted to use the plus board (as the ethernet will remain unaffected), what is your suggestion to get it made? Send boardmakers the schematic and let them have at it? Do you guys have a preferred list of vendors to have the boards made? Forgive my ignorance to the subject but my background has been on the software side w/ the hardware usually handled by others. Also, Is there any type of enclosure that you know of that anyone's had made for the native board? Thanks! Ed

Hi Ed, Generally speaking, it will be less expensive to buy a Netduino Plus than to make one...unless you're making 10,000's of them. If you're building that high of volume, you'll usually want to build your own derivative board that's cost-reduced for your application. Please make sure to take the Netduino logo off the board if building your own boards. On enclosures...many of the Arduino enclosures should work. If you're not sure whether the Netduino Plus fits in one or not, I'd recommend contacting the vendor of your favorite enclosure and asking them to verify compatibility. Chris
