Version: 4.3.0 Beta 1 (version 4.3.0.0 beta 1)

This firmware requires use of the .NET Micro Framework v4.3 SDK and Netduino 4.3.0.0 SDK.

With this firmware, you will have the following resources available for your code:
192KB Flash
60KB RAM

This firmware includes the following updates:
1. .NET MF 4.2 QFE2 and 4.3 bug fixes

This firmware does not include:
1. SecretLabs.NETMF.Hardware.Diagnostics.dll. This will be added in an upcoming release.

This firmware also includes the previous updates:
1. Bug fix: SPI clock 'idle high' setting now supported
2. Now compatible with legacy SecretLabs AnalogInput and PWM classes
3. Bug fix: SPI chip select timing corrected
4. Bug fix: PWM frequency corrected
5. New: more reliable rebooting during deployment
6. Additional I2C bug fix--pins now forced into proper configuration

To find the current version of your Netduino firmware:
1. Go to the Start Menu > Programs > Microsoft .NET Micro Framework 4.3 > MFDeploy
3. Plug your Netduino into your PC using a Micro USB cable.
4. In the Device section at top, select USB instead of Serial. Your Netduino should appear in the drop-down; if not, select it.
5. Select the Target menu, Device Capabilities option.
6. In the output box, find the "SolutionReleaseInfo.solutionVersion" value. This is your firmware version.

To flash this firmware:
1. Detach your Netduino
2. Press and hold your Netduino's pushbutton while plugging it in via USB; this will put it in bootloader mode.
3. Erase the firmware on your Netduino using the STDFU Tester v3.0.1 application
> a. Select the "Protocol" tab
> b. Press the "Create from Map" button
> c. Select the "Erase" radio button option
> d. Press the "Go" button
> e. Wait for erase process to complete
4. Flash the attached .DFU file using the ST DfuSe Demonstrator v3.0.2 application (included with STDFU Tester)
> a. Locate the "Upgrade or Verify Action" pane (bottom-right pane)
> b. Press "Choose..." and select the attached DFU file
> c. Check the "Verify after download" option
> d. Press "Upgrade". It will take a few minutes to update your Netduino.
> e. Detach and reattach your Netduino (power cycle) or press "Leave DFU mode"

Enjoy, and please let us know if you run into any troubles.

Chris

I have a brand new Netduino2 and would like to use the 4.3 firmware. I've downloaded and installed STDFU Tester (3.0.1). When I run the program, however, it doesn't seem to find the Neduino (there is nothing in the devices list). Clicking Create from Map does nothing.

The Netduino seems to be working fine. I can see it from MFDeploy fine and can read the Target Device Capabilities (It is currently flashed with version 4.2).

Any suggestions?

Hi Joe,

Any suggestions?

Did step 2 in the flashing instructions work for you? 2. Press and hold your Netduino's pushbutton while plugging it in via USB; this will put it in bootloader mode. That should make the device appear in the reflashing tools. Chris

Does firmware 4.3 support micro SDHC card that are more than 2GB? If not, any plans in the future to make the netduino support said storage cards?

Hi,

Is there any plan to release a new firmware soon, Beta started more than 1/2 year ago...

My Netduino 2 and Netduino 2 Plus are not used at all, as I face multiple issues regarding debugging and deployment ;-(

I'm happy that there are still N1(+) boards available as the 2 series does not work for me.

I'm getting quite frustrated as well: because the board is unstable due to networking issues I can't use it all. This has been going on for more than half a year now, I paid 60 euro for a device that is sitting in the drawer.

Just give us a second version of the beta and do a RTM when the new 4.3 framework is out?

The period between beta and release is far to long and (i think) it harms the brand Netduino. It's not the bad functionality of the netduino but the rumors on the forums. A patch or something was better then silence and it takes probably til end of this year before QFE1 will be released.

Hello.

Any chance of the source for this so I can try and fix my issues?

Development does appear to have stalled slightly so can we please move this up to final?

Thanks

I alerted Chris to this thread some time ago, no response.

Seems like N2/N2+ are not getting a lot of attention anymore.

Then what is. The N2+ has been out of stock in uk amazon.co.uk for a while. Has there been news of a new product on the way? I'm having issues with 4.3 that having the source code for may help. Moving 4.3 to final andor releasing the source would be fantastic. Cheers

So sounds for me N2(+) is dead - according to the availability and the missing statement from Chris.

This means to me, that I will invest work in "Raspberry Pi" - goodbye

I hope I can resurrect this thread. Over the last year, I have become a true convert. Net on a micro controller ... Whoa! While the road has been long and bumpy, this is a great platform. I hope there is long viability to the product line. Chris, I hope you weight in on this. Please give us some assurance. All of us believers need to know that that there is a n2++ in our future. There are many of us who would like (even eager) to help.

Sorry, somehow I didn't catch the posts on this thread until now. neographikal, thank you for reaching out. .NET Micro Framework releases work a little differently than other Microsoft platforms. When .NET MF 4.3 shipped (as RTM), that release is then tested by the community. We then file bug reports and work with the NETMF team to refine the firmware and issue a QFE release (which can then be used for production). This can be a bit confusing, so generally we call Netduino firmware releases based on early NETMF firmware "beta" (even though the NETMF firmware is RTM). As NETMF QFE1 releases become available, we upgrade the Netduino firmware to match. In the case of NETMF 4.3, the timeframe between RTM and QFE1 has been longer than with either NETMF 4.1 or NETMF 4.2. That's largely due to the fact that NETMF got a new set of engineers as part of a recent re-org and NETMF was a pretty complicated piece of technology for them to get caught up on. They have been busy fixing bugs this last year and the NETMF 4.3 QFE1 release will ideally be a release that we can "RTM" on. As far as the Netduino component of the Netduino Beta 1 firmware...we consider the Netduino code to be RTM quality, built on an early NETMF 4.3 core. We have made one very small change which we will be mating with NETMF 4.3 QFE1, but other than that and the version tag our code for RTM is exactly the same. While Microsoft's NETMF engineers have been busy working on QFE1, we have been working on firmware, software, tools and protocol enhancements for the Netduino line. We'll be able to share the first of these soon. And as soon as NETMF 4.3 QFE1 ships, we'll be right on it--getting Netduino 4.3 beta 2 firmware shipped quickly. If the beta 2 firmware passes our RTM ship tests, we'll then rebrand it as Netduino 4.3 RTM firmware. Chris
