Hey everyone!

I'm new to the community and first time posting so I apologize if I'm doing this incorrectly.

This post got me thinking about my current OS on my netbook. I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 with XP and and it's just terrible. I wanted to use this as my programming computer but unfortunately the codes don't load to my netduino 1 easily. I tried restoring it with no luck and apparently the rest of the world has this issue (missing recovery partition and no CD with computer)....

so getting to my point and question,

I was reading that i can change my OS to android ice cream sandwich 4.0 instead of XP. I also read that Xamarin is the C# tool i would need. I have also considered getting a variation of Lynux like Ubuntu.

I just want to know what your opinions would be before I go changing the OS on this. Which would be my best stable option considering I'm such a newbie?

I am still fresh to all of this and am really excited to be apart of group and don't want to have a bad experience.

I also have a Macbook pro with OS X 10.5.8 and can't get Mono on it so I can't use that currently either. I am chalking that one up to the outdated OS X version and have ordered the new one to give it another go.

Either way, any help is appreciated greatly!

Thanks Net-friends!

Hey NETfriends!
So I see a few people have viewed the post with no replies so I figured I'd give an update.

I backed off the Android platform for the time being and decided to work with the mac.

I was correct that the 10.5.8 operating system would not allow the download of the mono toolchain.

I purchased the Snow Leopard (v 10.6.3) from apple for about $21 and then upgraded even further to OS X Mavericks (v 10.9.2 which is the current OS X at time of this post). Xcode and Xamarin Studio both downloaded after my updates with no issues.

After successfully getting those downloaded, I took a break to learn some C#.

For those that are as new to this as I am, SchoolFreeWare.com offers some great tutorials on learning the programming languages.

For those interested..

I will eventually turn the netbook into an android OS and I will also start experimenting with a chromebook once I get my hands on one and will keep you posted on my netduino experience and how I intertwine everything.

I am very interested in hearing if anyone else has experimented with their netduinos and these platforms so please post and share your experiences!

Thanks and happy adventures!
