I have a netduino plus 2 board and I am trying to send gps location with gprs to my server.I am a java programmer by profession, but recently I got interested in IoT and m2m communications.I would like to know if I can use the below shield for the netduino plus 2 , though its mentioned for arduino.I just want to make sure I purchase the right parts.Or if anyone could suggest me the right parts to purchase for my gps+gsm tracking project.

here is the shield which I found that has gps & gsm.

You'll have to write your own drivers.

Most carriers charge outrageously for GSM, making it a very expensive way to do tracking comms. I had a look at the SIM908 chipset and it doesn't appear to support anything newer than GSM. Nor does it surface a connector for an external GPS antenna, which means you will need an IP66 enclosure because you'll have to roof mount it to get a lock in weak signal conditions.

To improve reliability and mitigate operational costs I recommend a store and forward architecture, for which this shield is not an ideal choice.

So far as I can determine, the SIM908 does not support altitude. If altitude matters to you then you need a shield that supports a uBlox 5, 6 or later such as this http://www.dfrobot.c...81#.Ui1kDdV-8dU.

I haven't personally used that one but I do intend to test one at some point.

One day, all this too shall parse.

There's the GM862 module from Telit that has it all; GSM/GPRS/3G and GPS. Sparkfun used to carry a breakout for it (retired now) but might still be available from other locations:

EDIT: Found the bare Telit module here:

For GPS only, I've used the UBlox 6 based module that's cheap and works great:

The module comes with a small antenna but there's a uFL connector to support an alternative antenna of your own choosing.

Take a look at these ones.

The Seeedstudio GPRS Shield v2.0 has GSM and GPRS support and you can replace the internal antenna

http://www.seeedstud...PRS_Shield_V2.0

and the Adafruit Ultimate GPS Breakout v3 gives you selectable rates of 1/5/10Hz, the possibility to connect an external antenna and everything on a quite small PCB.

Both work fine with my Netduino and both have the same type of u.FL connector for their antennas.

Have fun
