Hi, it hasn't been a good 24 hours. I tried, but I must admit I failed. I must have tried I guess 25-30 times with different OS'es (7 and XP) different SAM-BAS'es in weird combinations, lots of reboots, uninstalls and reinstalls. "Commune naufragium dulcet" is not true, I feel sorry for myself and others wasting a lot of time. Yes, the upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2 created another brick. And also unfortunately I have lost faith in this being possible without an unreasonable investment of time being involved. The netduino was happy and alive when it got here afew days ago. How do I get it back to that, to 4.1? Thanks, Peter Kobl

Simply Follow the Instructions provided in this thread:

http://forums.netdui...-v410-update-6/

If you provide a little more detail on what OS, SAM BA version, Which Firmware Version and Which Netduino you have we can try to walk you through it. Typically these issues are caused by nothing more than a driver mis-match or missed step.

thanks for replying, yes, sure there's a mismatch somewhere, that's why it does not work. I don't think the mismatch is in my reading capabilities. The mismatch is in the documentation. It does not tell me in an orderly way what the problem is and what to do about it. On top of that I have to integrate it myself since it is scattered throughout scores of forum entries. I guess I'm pissed and it's late and I'm barking up the wrong tree, I can only hope that whoever is responsible will read this. I'll try to be nice about it now, and I've already invested quite some time, so yes, suppose I'm being some sort of involuntary debugging/beta person now so here goes: N+, bricked, nothing in it. Power LED and "LED" LED on permanently. Windows 7 32 bit version, SAM-BA v2.10 CDC, Micro Framework 4.1, SDK v4.1.0, Device Manager says "AT91 USB to Serial Converter (COM56)", and has nothing relevant in the USB "tree". When running SAM-BA it only provides COM1 in the dropdown. When changing that to COM56 it "fails to connect". And I'm even not sure I'm supposed to use SAM-BA at this point, it's not really a step by step forum entry. What do I do next? Sorry for being rude. I know it's not your fault. regards, Peter

There are hundreds of people reflashing Netduinos on here. I have in fact done quite a few. It's not rocket science and certainly nothing to get completely irate about. I don't think anyone wants to help someone who is being rude and irate so please take a moment and relax and we will try to help when you are willing to listen and follow our steps.

Peter, I don't know you, but believe I've been you. I've been on the verge of giving up (unrelated to re-flashing) quite a few times and was about to give all my stuff away (you can check me on this...the forum entry is still on here somewhere...) I hope not to patronize you, but I do want to share with you that, in my experience, the breakthrough comes just as my frustration peaks. And when it comes, the feeling of relief is incredible! Take a day off from electronics and re-approach this later. What you are trying to do is tedious, but it is possible (and has been accomplished by me dozens of times...and I am no genius.) If you still are not successful on your own after a fresh approach, I will IM/chat with you and help you re-flash. I have an early NetduinoMini that needs a total re-flash. Let me practice upgrading that tomorrow night and if you are still interested I will step you through the process on Wednesday or Thursday. Does that work for you? NOTE: I have nothing to do with the Netduino company, but I have 5 Netduinos that I am very happy with. -AlfredBr

I totally reprogrammed my Netduino Plus at least 30 times last weekend when playing with the hardware watchdog on the boot loader.

First follow this process: http://wiki.netduino...ep-by-step.ashx
  • Fully reset Netduino by connecting the wire as shown on the wiki page (USB connected)
  • Disconnect and reconnect USB -> in my case I see 'GPS Camera Detect (COM6)' being connected. I'm running Windows 8 64-bit
  • Program the TinyBooterDecompressor.bin with SAM-BA as instructed in the wiki page. I need to connect to COM6 in SAM-BA
  • Disconnect and reconnect USB
Now you should have the board in such shape that MFDeploy recognizes it: -> http://wiki.netduino...ep-by-step.ashx

I got it working. Win7/32, SDK and MicroFramework at 4.2. SAM-BA v2.12. I'll try to explain the steps that made it work for me and that are different or varies compared to the Forum official entries. Of course I can't be sure exactly what variation made it work, probably just one. For the SAM-BA step i followed the instructions here http://financecoding...-netduino-mini/ They are for a mini and a different version of SDK, SAM-BA, etc, and I substituted as necessary. Apart from the different SW versions one notable difference is that one the first steps: ------------------------------------------------------ "Boot from Flash (GPNVM2)" and click on "Execute" (this is from http://wiki.netduino...ep-by-step.ashx) ------------------------------------------------------- happens toward the end instead of at the beginning. I dunno if it makes a difference, I just repeat the steps prescribed (which I followed). -- As an aside, the instructions are well written and informative. After the SAM-BA session, and various unplugging/replugging, etc, all in-vain, I rebooted Win7. Up again I unplugged/replugged a couple of times and finally Windows "recognized" and converted the Camera Driver under Device Manager (ports) to an entry, Netduino, in Device Manager (usb). Well It's been 2 dreadful days! I can only hope for more smooth sailing from now on . But after all it was pretty good before I started this upgrade. Now it seems to be over and I can probably look forward to more positive experiences. Regards, Peter Kobl
