#63056 Watchdog

Posted by phantomtypist on 05 June 2015 - 02:33 PM in Netduino 3

As it always is in electronics and software development, there are many solutions.

I personally use the Maxim DS1388 (http://www.maximinte...cks/DS1388.html).  You get an RTC, a watchdog timer, and also 512 bytes of EEPROM.  I use it religiously in all my projects.

You can find the driver (DS1388.cs) for it in one of my projects: https://bitbucket.or...tomtypist/ncmp/

#62442 Introducing Netduino 3 Wi-Fi

Posted by phantomtypist on 05 May 2015 - 02:34 PM in Netduino 3

Repairing the Netduino SDK worked.  Weird.

#62432 Introducing Netduino 3 Wi-Fi

Posted by phantomtypist on 05 May 2015 - 02:58 AM in Netduino 3

I have NETMF SDK 4.3 QFE2 installed and Netduino SDK 4.3.1 (February 2014) installed.  When I plug the Netduino 3 Wi-Fi into the computer via USB, it is not detected by MFDeploy nor Visual Studio 2012.

I'm guessing I'm missing some new version of the Netduino SDK, correct?

#60075 Vermont Code Camp (20-SEP-2014) and IoT Session

Posted by phantomtypist on 11 September 2014 - 03:19 PM in General Discussion

In case anybody is planning on going to the code camp and sitting in on my session.... some sponsors have been very generous.  There is some nice swag that will be given away ;)

#59820 Netduino Unique ID

Posted by phantomtypist on 21 August 2014 - 03:30 AM in Netduino 2 (and Netduino 1)

Assuming that the Netduino is part of some circuit, maybe you could use a 1-wire unique serial number,

http://www.maximinte...cts/DS2411.html

You can use that if you are comfortable soldering surface mount chips.

If you'd rather solder through hole components, Maxim makes a bunch of other 1-wire chips with unique serial numbers on them like the DS18B20 https://www.sparkfun.com/products/245

#59804 Netduino Plus 2 for $40

Posted by phantomtypist on 20 August 2014 - 07:36 PM in Netduino Plus 2 (and Netduino Plus 1)

I just bought 8 x Netduino 1's on clearance for £10 each. Perfect for an intro to microcontrollers session that I'm about to do for my colleagues (C# developers). It's just gone from a talk to a hands-on lab. Should be fun.

Fred, where did you buy them for 10 pounds each?

Olaf, I'm actually bringing both Netduino and GHI devices!

#59643 Vermont Code Camp (20-SEP-2014) and IoT Session

Posted by phantomtypist on 09 August 2014 - 11:58 PM in General Discussion

For those of you in the vicinity of Burlington, VT, there will be a code camp on September 20, 2014.  I will be presenting a session called "Azure, .NET and the Internet of Things".

Here is the abstract:

The Internet of Things (IoT) movement is picking up steam. It's estimated that by 2020, the IoT will be an $8.9 trillion market with over 200 billion connected devices. In this session you'll learn how to leverage your existing .NET skills to build the next big (or tiny) thing!

This session will explore:

  • What is the Internet of Things?
  • An introduction to basic micro electronics.
  • What is the .NET Micro Framework (NETMF)?
  • Exploring the NETMF and Arduino.
  • Running C# on a Raspberry Pi.
  • Connecting your devices to Azure.
  • Using the Windows on Devices SDK with an Intel Galileo.

There will be no time for boring slides here. Instead we'll be covering lots of code and fun interactive demos with the audience.

FYI my talk has been accepted.  Is anybody on here going to the code camp?
