#63014 Hardware Selection: LCD Screen/Display With "easy" Interface SPI or I2C

Posted by Andrew Johnson on 02 June 2015 - 01:40 PM in General Discussion

I've recently been playing with the DOG series of LCDs from EA.

Fairly inexpensive. Works well with 3.3v and SPI support on Netduino 1 and Netduino Mini. Requires a couples of series resistors for the backlight, and two capacitors if using 3.3v. Uses a fairly standard HD44780 command set, although font selection is different.

#60452 Returning to Netduino after a break

Posted by Andrew Johnson on 18 October 2014 - 05:17 PM in General Discussion

An update:

I found the Netduino Update Tool mentioned in this post by Chris. However it only seems to support updating the firmware on second generation devices. I keep finding comments from earlier this year about 4.3 being available for other devices "soon", but then nothing.

If I have to use 4.2 on my Netduino 1 and Minis, what (if anything) are my options for using VS2012? I don't have VS2010 anymore.

I don't expect Secret Labs to provide updates for the Netduino 1 for ever, and I'm happy to replace mine with a Netduino 2. But there is no replacement for the Mini, and my I'm getting the impression that it is being left behind when it comes to sdks, firmware, and ide support.

#60450 Returning to Netduino after a break

Posted by Andrew Johnson on 18 October 2014 - 04:39 PM in General Discussion

Hi everyone,

I'm rebuilding my Netduino dev environment from scratch after about six months in which I had no free time for tech projects. I had various projects on the go using a Netduino 1 and various Minis, all using VS2010 and the 4.2 SDKs and corresponding firmware, and I'm keen to get back to them.

I now only have VS2012. According to this forum post from February by Chris Walker, I need the 4.3 SDK for VS2012 support. But this only seems to support the Netduino 2, and I can't find any indication that 4.3 is now available for other devices. Can anyone advise me on where things stand with this?

I installed NetMF 4.3 and the x64 netduino SDK anyway, with the thought of trying to re-flash my Netduino 1 with the 4.3 firmware (easier than re-flashing Minis) using mfdeploy, but I can't seem to locate the ER_CONFIG and ER_FLASH files. Where should I be looking?

I have the uncomfortable feeling of having forgotten much of what I once knew regarding netduinos. Hopefully it will come back to me, but a push in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks, Andy.

#60449 New: Netduino 4.3.1 SDK and VS2012+ support

Posted by Andrew Johnson on 18 October 2014 - 03:48 PM in General Discussion

Hi Chris,

Is there any news on availability of 4.3 for the Netduino 1 and Mini?

Thanks,

Andy
