In Topic: What really happened when an IC chip smokes?

24 September 2011 - 04:01 AM

The chip is most likely in a plastic package (I don't know that chip). The chip got hot enough to get the plastic to start smoking. You are extremely lucky that the chip still works, however, there is most certainly damage done to the chip. The chip will not perform to rated spec anymore and will not last as long as it should and will most probably get hotter a lot quicker on your next dangerous attempt.

Thank you for the explanation. It does seem function a bit unpredictable after the incidance, it time for me to get another one.

Freeman4gu,

How did you get it to work?
I have tried this driver on both Netduino & Netduino Plus, It seems like it almost works, I can hear the gearbox makes clicking noise, and when it is... I measured the voltage on the motor using my voltage meter it reads 0.14 to 0. it seems that the gearbox was attempting to spin the wheel to sastify me... but it couldn't for some reasons.

Here is my connecting diagram, + code solution, see if anyone see anything wrong with that code? it was coppied straight out of Chris's post.

Thanks!

In Topic: Motor Shield Choice

11 September 2011 - 02:37 AM

Hello I am not an electronic guy by any mean, so sorry in advance for dump question. I have a DRrobot Motor shield that uses L293B chip, Looks like this one: http://www.dfrobot.c...9&product_id=59 I have shield sits on top of my Netduino Plus. I powered netduino plus with 4.5V battery pack. I could not get the motor running at all. do you know what specific about this driver that makes it not compatible with an L293B? -Thanks!
