Hi Grant, On your boards...the best thing to do is get into online chat and walk you through a set of debug options. With the behavior the boards are exhibiting, it's most likely a driver issue or we need to make better instructions or better tools to reflash the boards. Can you PM me with a good time to sync up via chat? If we can't solve the issue via chat, we're more than happy to swap you for a new board and analyze your existing board when it arrives...but if it's a reflashing usability issue, it's probably a lot better to give you the tools and instructions to get back up and running immediately there. On volumes...many resellers (including Amazon and Mouser) give price breaks at 10 units and 100 units. We also sell directly to customers who need 1000+ units. Worldwide, Mouser handles the most volume purchases, schedules orders in advance for customers, etc. Thanks, Grant. Let's get your board back up and running here... Chris

You choose the time and I'll work to suit you. I'm just glad to catch up with you. You'd better PM me though, cause I've tried PM'ing you with no luck for a while.

I was getting a little nervous down here. I know your a really popular guy and your time is probably quite precious so i'll take as little as possible.

I've got a pair of of N+2's not communicating over USB full stop. Other than that, perfectly fine and running the last deployed program.

There is nothing in the device manager and even no bing-bong when it's connected. Tried it on 2 different computers and heaps of different USB ports. Tried another cable and no go either. Of course, I've got another half a dozen that are fine on those computers and cables. They do go into boot loader mode but it doesn't make a difference. We've been prototyping on these one's since the N+2 launch and they'd probably been deployed to a few hundred times. There isn't a limit by any chance is there.

I've only got USB access to them at the moment. I've never needed anything else.

I've also got a logic analyzer if need be but not much else at the moment I'm afraid.

I'm more than happy to purchase anything else i need for the job to have on hand in the future. Please advise on a known compatible USB serial cable of some description and I'll get right to it. If JTAG is going to be required also just name it and I'll get it. I've looked for this kind of thing on the forums but haven't found what i need. Must be rare? Looking forward to learning more in depth about these wonderful boards.

The only other thing i haven't tried is shorting that "erase pad" over near D1. That wouldn't help here would it?

Grant.

Hi Angus, To get into DFUSE bootloader mode, the pushbutton does need to be pressed down for sure. If the firmware is erased and you power it up without pressing the button, the microcontroller will just try to execute the empty firmware. Can you open up Device Manager really quickly? When you plug in your device with the button pressed down, does it appear as an "ST DFU Device"? If you plug it in without pressing the button, does it enumerate at all? In the latter case, it shouldn't. Chris

I no longer have these devices as i RMA'd them with the company i bought them from.

I did try several times with the button held down also, the same result happened... nothing.

But i do recall the device appearing in device manager still, but i cannot be sure of my self, and can no longer check that fact.

Thanks for all your help though. Its a shame this couldnt have been solved easier.

I just hope it doesnt happen again with the replacements...

Angus

Anyone know of a good serial to USB adapter that works with Netduino and MAX3232?

Grant -- there is no erase pad on the gen2 devices (since ST uses the USB bootloader to erase/reflash). For USB to RS-232, I recommend using the Keyspan 19HS. http://www.tripplite...txtModelID=3914 Also...if you want to talk directly to the UART pins on Netduino, the FTDI USB-TTL cable (3.3V version) generally works really well. P.S. You have PM. I'll be up for a while tonight ("Australia Time") in case I can help you get the issue debugged. :) Chris

Just ordered one, Thanks for the tip. There's probably not a lot I can do until I get it right? With no USB connect and all.

Hey Grant, The Netduino is programmed, at least at first, via USB. So yes, you'll need USB to use the adapter. I'm in Netduino Chat right now if you want to jump on... Chris
