So my clumsy fingers have managed to break a few pins on the Mini... Where can I order replacements that I can solder on?

Hi fluke, The manufacturer is Interplex NAS and the part number is AA08AA-0560-0DCD. If you can't find them, let me know. Please note that the pins are applied by hand and then cut--so replacing them is typically for more advanced users... Chris

Chris,

So if I want to remove them on purpose, are they serving any function? Like a via or something?

The pins provide an electrical connection between the 24 pads on the edge of the Netduino Mini PCB and the socket, breadboard, or PCB that the Netduino Mini is plugged into.

You can remove them if you'd like to solder directly to the pads. That might be a fairly advanced de-soldering job though.

I was thinking about the replacement process and it seems to me you could just pick up one of these from SparkFun:

SparkFun .6" ZIF Socket

Then, after desoldering all the pins you want to replace, set the Netduino Mini in the ZIF socket, "hang" new pins in place, and gently close the ZIF socket. Should hold everything nice and steady for soldering.

And once it is fixed, put the ZIF socket in the regular socket and the Mini in it... No more worries about breaking pins!

This ZIF is a little longer than necessary, with extra pin slots, but that shouldn't cause a problem.

And it will work out great later as you will have the right size ZIF socket already on hand when the N+ Mini finally arrives! B)
