Hi,

Has anyone tried to do a project on touch shield with servo? It is to set a correct password on the touch shield and servo will turn it if the button been pressed correctly.

I did followed the codes from http://forums.netdui...=+touch +shield and I am using the same product https://www.sparkfun.../products/10508

I still could not understand of how and where to insert the code for setting password and connect together with servo (if possible).

Hi!

I don't get why would you need a password in order to connect to a servo. Servos are made to move by sending a short pulse  (1 to 2 ms long, usually corresponding to a -45 to +45 degree rotation from the center point) every 20 ms or so and there's no password required for that.

Aren't you simply supposed to type a pin code on the touch panel and have it checked in your code against a pre-defined password (of you own choosing) before moving the servo?

I'm guessing the post you refer to uses the touch panel for typing in a password and if it's correct it uses a servo to operate some kind of button or lever belonging to an external apparatus like a TV set or a dishwasher. if so, it's just a way of adding a touch control and password protection to an existing apparatus that doesn't already have touch capabilities (or password protection).

Hi,

Thank for the quick response. You mean, touch shield can't be used for password? In order for me to use a servo to do some actions, I need to use something like this?

or

https://www.sparkfun.../products/10250

I'm sorry for this noob question. But, what else can touch shield do?

Hello again!

It seems I must have misinterpreted your initial post a bit, sorry. Everything you want to do is indeed totally doable.

Sure, you can use a touch panel to enter a password, no problem. That part does work right?

As for controlling a servo, it is done the way I described earlier. Have a look at this post containing an article with a link to a class for dealing with servos:
