Powering the Mini with 3.7v

Sorry about the delay.  I was going to design it all in Fritzing and post the Fritzing file, but not all the parts are available and I haven't figured out how to create the fritzing parts yet. So here is just a photo. The blue board is the one from Adafruit and is the charger, the smaller Sparkfun is the fuel gauge and the square Sparkfun is the StepUp 5V.  You can grab the actual pin outs from the Sparkfun and Adafruit site but the connection is shown below.  If you decide to use the fuel gauge let me know and I can post up a class polling the fuel gauge.

Hello, I currently have a Netduino Plus that I am using to communicate with my Android phone over Bluetooth using : https://www.sparkfun.../products/10269

 

I plan on making a small device that has 2 momentary switches, that when pressed will send a "hit" or "miss" to the phone. I would like to use a Netduino Mini along with the Bluetooth Module linked above to acheive this. The mini can take 7.5 to 12v unregulated but I was wondering if it would be possible to power all the devices I need using a  5v DC to DC Step Up converter like this https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8290 and a 3.7v rechargable battery to keep the whole package small.

yes that works.

 

iam using a LM2577 (from ebay, very cheapo) to step up to 5v for powering the mini (i can be powered by regulated 5v) ..

than iam using a LM2596 to step it down to 3.3v for all rails/devices.

 

iam also using bluetooth.

the sparkfun ones seem quite pricy

For Pandora's Box I am using a 2700mAh LiPo along with a Charger, Booster and Fuel Gauge.  I can charge the unit using Mini USB, Monitor the LiPo Level and step up to 5V (Netduino Plus handles the Step down from 5v to 3v). For mini you'd need to handle that.

Thanks Noom for a link to that Bluetooth module!   Dave thanks for those links your project is very interesting. I would love to be able to integrate a charger, booster and indicator into my project as well. I am very new to this whole field and I was wondering if you could elaborate a bit on how all those parts would play together. I am going to take a wild guess and if you could tell me how far off base I am that would be great :D .   Does the charger's Batt terminal get connected to the indicator module in series with the battery?   Then the Load terminal is connected to the booster to provide the 5 volts to the netduino mini? If I were then to connect a power switch for my device would I put it somewhere between the Load terminal and the booster module?   One last question. The Bluetooth module I linked says it can operate from 3.3v to 6v so should I even worry about providing 3.3v for my project? The only other components i have are the 2 switches that are just going to go from 2 IO ports to GND.   Thanks again!

You are not far off.  The only difference would be that the fuel gauge is in Parallel with the (Batt) battery connector.  Basically piggy-backed.  In my case I have the switch between the booster and the ND and this is because I have a switch with an LED ring around it that I connected to show when it's charging with some extra circuitry. You can absolutely put the switch between the booster and the load so the booster isn't always powered (probably the best choice).

 

If you need a diagram I can try to make one up when back in my office later today.

However, if I had to guess, I say something like 1N4001, or something in the same family, that you can pickup from RadioShack, will probably work fine.[/color]

I am hoping to receive the parts sometime this week and I am hoping to get it wired up sometime this weekend. I do plan on hooking up the fuel guage so some code would be great to have so i can figure out what is going on.

But do you mind sharing the fritzing part files for the lipo fuel gauge please, could not find it in the library.
