Blog comment that is not very encouraging:

I'm just starting an Arduino project and came across netduino. Ordered a Netduino Plus 2 from Amazon and then saw the above. Cancelled order (fro now).

I would much rather use VS and C# than arduino, but don;'t want to get into something that's about to die. What are the implications of MF being moved to maintenance mode in Chinca. Does this mean that netduino is dead in water?

Also is Galileo an alternative/competitor

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark, Netduino is definitely not dead in the water. .NET Micro Framework has a program manager within the Windows Embedded division, and we work with the .NET Micro Framework program manager frequently. As part of the big re-org at Microsoft, new engineers got assigned to the NETMF core--and those engineers don't post as frequently as the previous engineers did--but they are indeed continuing to enhance and support NETMF. [Also, NETMF is one of Microsoft's open source success stories--and companies and individuals contribute back to both NETMF and Netduino.] We'll be here to support you for years to come. We launched the exciting new Netduino Update application earlier this month, posted an SDK for Visual Studio 2013 this week, and have lots of new software, features and hardware accessories coming throughout 2014. Plus we have the AGENT Smartwatch platform (with NETMF apps) gearing up for production and another NETMF-powered commercial product line shipping next year. For me, this next year is the most exciting year for NETMF to date. Galileo is an Arduino competitor/collaborator from Intel, a marketing piece to show off their new Quark micros and designed to get Intel technology into the education and maker markets. It's cool to see companies like Intel pay attention to the maker marketplace. Chris

Hi Chris,

It seems that .NET MF 4.3 QFE1 is available on Codeplex. I have a NetDuino Plus. I installed all the new frameworks and I'm using visual studio 2013. I wanted this to be part of control application using the GPIO. When I tried to make a USB HID device I received a NotSupported Exception since my board is running 4.2 (something) is it just an old firmware and in fact there is a version of 4.2 with USB support?

I can understand the Plus 2 being a more powerful board, but I don't want to throw this one away at the moment. I can understand the memory issues with the new larger 4.3 framework, but is there a way to compile a version of the .NET MF 4.3 for Netduino Plus v1. Just so I could use this board to run a few lines of code that will setup a USB HID device and allow me to control the GPIO with a small program that will take commands from the USB port?

Thanks,

Hi Darren, For now, I'd recommend using the 4.2 or 4.3 SDK on your computer...with the older 4.1 firmware on your Netduino Plus 1. Chris

Quick note for those following this thread: Netduino 4.3.1 SDK and firmware (with full support for .NET MF 4.3 QFE1, experimental VS2013 support and bug fixes) is now posted! http://forums.netdui...vs2012-support/ Chris
