Now that my TRNG seems to be working well, I'd like to attach it to one of my Linux servers to populate the entropy pool (enough geekery in that sentance?). However, I need some way to get the data from the Netduino to the system, and I'd like to do it without having to attach (buy) any shields. I saw a post here on the forums where someone used a usb->ttl (I think?) adapter to communicate with a desktop app. This brings me to my questions: First, will this adapter be adequate http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8580. Second, from the standpoint of code where do I begin?

UnkwnTech, You'll want a 3.3V USB-TTL cable rather than a USB-RS232 cable. You can plug the USB end into your PC and the TTL end directly into COM1 (D0/D1) or COM2 (D2/D3) on your Netduino or Netduino Plus. Chris

Can you recommend any, I checked SparkFun and some local retailers and didn't find anything.

Hi guys, This is a newb question so I apologize in advance, but I purchased the FTDI USB-TTL cable and I don't understand how to connect the cable to the Netduino. Both ends are female. Should I break off the 1x6 housing on the FTDI cable?

Hi vykter,

You can do that, but I'd recommend plugging M-M jumper wires into the end of the cable and then plugging the other end of those jumper wires into your Netduino. You can buy pre-cut jumper wires or just cut and strip some non-stranded wire yourself.

Welcome to the Netduino community,

Chris
