Hi to everyone, sorry for my bad english. I was communicating with my netduino through an usb-ttl adapter when the program stopped working (nb: the deployment is on usb). After several unsuccessful attempts to send a new program through the usb port i decided to follow the reset procedure described in this post: http://forums.netdui...rased-netduino/ I've done this procedure before but now when I connect netduino through the usb cable windows says "unknown usb device". The white and blue leds on netduino are always on. I tried to install the driver in Program Files > Atmel SAM-BA > Drivers (with winXP 32bit) but it says that it is impossible to find a driver better than the one already installed! What can I do? Thank you very much for your attention, Faith

Hi Faith,
You can try to do the role procedure to update Netduino, sometimes I need to do it. The procedure is here: Wiki Netduino. If it's doesn't work take a look if you do some mistakes in the hardware.

Hi Victor M., thank you for the reply. This procedure is the one that I tried to do, but when I reconnect netduino the virtual COM port is not installed and netduino appears as unknown device, even when I tried to install atmel drivers manually. If the board isn't recognized by the pc I don't know what to do in the following steps.

Hi Faith, If you right-click on the "Unknown Device" in Device Manager, what VID/PID is given in the device's details (last tab, you may need to look through the pull-down options). Also, what version of SAM-BA is installed? Chris

Hi Chris, Sam-ba is the v 2.12. For the hardware ID it says only "USB/UNKNOWN". Thank you for the help, Faith

Hi Faith,
This "unknown device" appear just after you get a wire and clear Netduino? If is that problem you need to use a generic GPS Camera Driver, download it here. I made a compilation off role process in my blog (in portuguese... ) you can take a look here,
Sometimes I hate this model of share information in forum don have organization... everything is mixed...

Victor

Hi Victor, I've connected the 3V3 to the erase pad and when I connected again the usb port, netduino appeared as an unknown device. I tried even with your drivers but it says like before "in the specified directory there isn't any driver better than the one already installed" or something like that. If I specify manually the drivers to install it says "the specified position doesn't contain information about the hardware". I tried almost every procedure I've found in this forum but without success. Thank you everybody for the help, Faith

Hi Faith, You may want to grab a copy of SAM-BA v2.11 (or maybe even SAM-BA v2.09). The older drivers were "non-CDC" drivers...which would force Windows to pull in the older drivers. Chris

I tried with sam-ba v 2.11 but the result is the same! I've connected netduino to another pc (win xp 32bit) and the problem are the same but in the device properties > details the ID are: USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&2C77E8C4&0&1

Hi Faith,

USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&2C77E8C4&0&1

That VID/PID indicates that Windows can't enumerate the device at all (so it won't be able to match any drivers to it).

Please try holding down the pushbutton while plugging in your Netduino--and see if you get a different result.

If not, please try re-erasing your Netduino (connecting the 3V3 power header to the ERASE pad for 250ms or so).

If that doesn't work, then it's possible that the Netduino got damaged somehow (shorting out a circuit, etc.)... How long have you had your Netduino?

Chris

Hi Chris, nothing to do, I think my netduino is dead because I tried almost everything to reset it unsuccessfully. I bought it about 5 months ago. Maybe I've done some wrong wiring, I don't know, the next time i'll pay more attention! Thank you very much to everyone for the help, it's a great community! If someone has other ideas on how to ressurrect my netduino I'm ready to try! Thank you very much again, Faith P.S.: I'll take this error as an invitation to be more careful in the future, with my next netduino! I've absolutely no intention of giving up with this BEAUTIFUL device! ;)

Hi, after i've flashed my regular Netduino to 4.2 using the upgrade guide, i can't seem to connect my device anymore. Windows tells me it can't find the device. Gives an "unknown device" error.

When I start the Netduino with the Reset button pushed down, Windows does recognize the Netduino but i get the following error when Deploying:

------ Deploy started: Project: NetduinoLaserGame, Configuration: Debug Any CPU ------
An error has occurred: please check your hardware.

I've already flashed the Netduino with the MFDeploy again. This works only when connecting the Netduino if the reset button is pushed down. Any thoughts what may have happened?

Thanks.

Interesting Dezorian! Since I know you, and you live nearby, any chance we can reproduce with your hardware on my pc and my hardware on your pc? Just to find what's going on?

For anyone with this potential driver installation issue.... I erased the Netduino using the gold pad and 3.3V. After reboot of Netduino, the drivers would not install on Windows 7 x64. I am not sure the host operating system really has anything to do with it though. I got either the "Unknown Device", "failed to install drivers" or "USB device not recognized" errors from Windows. Feeling stumped, I plugged in a Netduino Plus and trudged down the same road. This time everything worked fine! The drivers installed and I was able to use SAMBA 2.12 and MFDeploy. Everything worked fine migrating the Netduino Plus from NETMF 4.1 to 4.2. I began to wondering why the Netduino (original) was not behaving correctly. Then it hit me! The only difference between the two was that the Netduino Plus was standalone yet the Netduino (original) was plugged into a project. I was feeling lazy and did not want to remove the Netduino (original) from its project and left all the other wires connected. So I removed all the wires from the Netduino headers. FYI I was using one UART, analog, SPI, some digital pins, and also feeding 3.3V, 5V and ground to some peripherals. Now, with the Netduino (original) all by itself I performed the 3.3V on the gold erase pad. Rebooted. Voila it works! I'm not sure what exactly was causing the problem, but by disconnecting all the wires from the headers (except 3.3V for the gold erase pad) I was able to finally have Windows recognize the Netduino (original) so I could upgrade from NETMF 4.1 to 4.2. I hope this helps anyone else with this issue in the future.

Hi phantomtypist, That's a really good tip. When reflashing a Netduino from scratch, unplugged any attached shields is a good idea. Chris

Hi Chris and Faith,

I have also Netduino Plus 1 and I got the same error "device unknown" on Win7 even I've tried everything described above. But My USB VID/PID was different (no such strange hash key at the end).

Then I've connected the Netduino to my older netbook with WinXP, where I have been testing Netduino earlier. The device drive was found and I was able to do update to 4.2

After reflashing on XP, Netduino driver was found for the device on Win7, but I still can't progress on Win7, because combobox in Sam-ba v2.12 is empty, as well as Atmel's Sam-ba v2.9.

I should mention, that my Netduino is unstable in flashing. I've tried NetFM 4.1., 4.2.0.0. RC3, 4.2.0.0. RC4, and today the latest 4.2.0.0. on different computers, before I have suceeded (even only partialy). I've been trying to get working Netduino more then one year and today I've got second positive result. Netduino is somehow life, but I'll see tomorrow morning. Sometimes it is not responding, but finally after many resets I was able to setup IP and even shortly debug. Apart of unexpected behavior when connecting, is obvious one significant problem: MFDeploy doesn't display "Target->Device Capabilities". Ping sometimes doesn't display only "ping ... tinyboot", but also one line of assembly description. Do you have any idea what is crewed up? I have no courage to update again once my device is live. I've spent already to much time with it. Shoult I rather create in this forum new thread for this issue?

Thank you in advance for help also with the Win7 driver issue.
