Windows 7 64 bit can't see netduino

Best Answer johnstaveley, 03 February 2014 - 08:03 AM

These are the steps I eventually followed to solve the problem with upgrading the Netduino plus 1:

Flash Tiny Booter Decompressor http://wiki.netduino...ep-by-step.ashx

Device recognised in device manager as Netduino but not working

Reinstalled Netduino SDK 4.3

Device should now appear in device manager

Install firmware 4.2 to chip: http://forums.netdui...-v420-update-1/

So Netduino plus (v1) works with firmware 2 and SDK 4.3 enables me to deploy code to it using VS 2012 on Windows 8.1. Still a problem when debugging code in VS 2012 tho.

I am trying to install the netduino on my Windows 7 64 bit system through USB. There seem to be plenty of posts on this subject but none with exactly my problem. I can't see the netduino with MFDeploy, VS 2010 or device manager. I installed the micro framework sdk 4.1 and then the netduino sdk. I've tried a variety of USB ports and cables. The netduino has never worked on this computer but worked on a previous computer. It is connected via 7V supply. In device manager there is an 'Other device -> bluetooth peripheral device' showing and in the icon tray of windows there is an icon saying 'device driver software was not successfully installed' but I can't click it or take any remedial action. I've tried the action in this post: http://wiki.netduino...y-Netduino.ashx but nothing changes. This post makes no sense: http://wiki.netduino...ep-by-step.ashx I would appreciate some help as I'm not getting any where with this. thanks, John p.s. you can't search for Windows 7 in your search facility. This is just plain silly!

Hi johnstaveley, I would like to ask a few questions to help you with your problem. Which firmware version do you use, 4.1 or 4.2? If it's 4.2, did you also install the latest SDK including WinUSB drivers? In your device manager, does it show up, and if so, how is it labeled?

Hi John, When you plug in your Netduino, does the blue LED come on? Does it turn off after a few seconds? Chris

As for me, it worked at first time, without any issue. Cheers
Biggest fault of Netduino? It runs by electricity.

Hi, I plug the netduino in and the blue light is flashing, the white light is on. The blue light is flashing because of a previously installed program to make it flash. It does this continuously when under power or plugged in via usb or both.

I don't know what firmware I am using. I followed the install instructions here:
http://www.netduino.com/downloads/
So I am using micro framework 4.1 and netduino SDK 4.1. The driver said it was being installed when I installed the netduino sdk. It doesn't show up in device manager.

I just plugged in a new netduino plus. Same thing except the blue light goes on and then off after a few seconds

This may be an unhelpful question, but have you tried to power the netduino from just the usb port? Your original post makes it sound like you are powering it from both the USB and 7v power supply at the same time...I use mine on win64, but I dont use an external power supply.

Hi John,

Let's try the following steps:
  • Unplug any hardware from your new Netduino Plus, and unplug its power and USB connections.
  • Open up Device Manager on your computer.
  • Plug in the Netduino Plus.

Does Device Manager "refresh" the device tree? Does a new device appear? If so, what does it say?

It sounds like there is a driver mismatch somewhere in your system. We should be able to sort that out if we can get a bit more information on what's going on.

BTW, uninstalling and reinstalling the Netduino SDK will re-register the drivers. Let's try the above steps first...but that may be an easy way to fix the current issue.

Hi, @mtylerjr - I've tried running it on usb, powered and both i.e. all 3 configurations @Chris W - I've tried what you suggest and tried reinstalling the SDK to no avail. The device manager is not refreshed when I plug the device in even though it is clearly powering it. John

Hi johnstaveley,

If you plug in your Netduino via its USB cable but nothing happens in Device Manager...then either the USB hardware/drivers on the computer is malfunctioning or your Netduino's USB is broken/disabled.

When you plug your Netduino into another computer, it enumerates there correct?

I'm at a bit of a loss here... If there's anything you can provide (perhaps a cellphone video showing you plugging in the Netduino and showing Device Manager) it would really help us help see what's going on.

Chris

P.S. I know this may sound funny, but I recommend upgrading the board to NETMF 4.2 and installing the 4.2 SDKs on another computer. Then after you know that it works there install the 4.2 SDKs on your Windows 7 machine...and see if the Netduino is then enumerated properly (using the new WinUSB drivers).
