Hey guys, i am new not only in this forum but even in the Xduino world. I am C# programmer so you can imagine how i can be interested in the .Net one. Now my question: can you head me in some kind of site selling a starter kit for netduino? I can find something similar just for arduino. Or please can u provide a list of "items" to start with? I dont khnow what my first project will be, i am only sure a want an ethernet shield :D Thanks in advance FrankDuino

I'm the same as you - C# background (and some electronics) but no microcontroller experience. Sounds like the Netduino Plus would be ideal for you if you can wait a few weeks for availablility. The Netduino "standard" should be available but has no built-in ethernet. There's no "kit" needed, just the device and then whatever you want to connect it to. There's a few suppliers. What country are you in?

You should be able to use Arduino parts with Netduino, as long as you are aware of the voltage/current difference between those two: basically Netduino has 3.3 V (5 V tolerant inputs) 'low current' I/O (2 ~ 16 mA) , while Arduino has 5 V 'high current' I/O (~40 mA).

Or please can u provide a list of "items" to start with?

It depends on what you'd like to do, there are just so many of them... From my personal experience, I would start with onboard LED and switch, followed by any of showcased projects: character LCDs, analog sensors (temperature, distance etc.), serial communication with PC, multiplexed LED matrices, PWM motor drivers, wireless modules etc. You can wire rather complex circuits with minimum of external components, but bunch of resistors, capacitors, transistors and ICs like serial-to-parallel shift register (74x595 or 4094) always come handy.

Hi FrankDuino, It looks like Fred and CW2 already have you taken care of here, but since you're new I wanted to say 'hi' and welcome you to the Netduino community... On Ethernet shields: if you buy the new Arduino Ethernet shield, you'll need to solder a 6-pin header onto the 'ICSP' pins (the 6 gold plated pins on the right side of the Netduino). If you buy an older Arduino Ethernet Shield or the DFRobot Ethernet Shield, it will work as-is. And of course the Netduino Plus has integrated Ethernet--but it won't be officially released until the end of next month. Chris
