Hi zynischen,
There are hundreds of thousands of components that you could plug into a Netduino
One thing to watch out for: most Arduino shields work, but some have 5V _analog_ outputs or require AVR-specific code to function. If you want to use one of those with Arduino Due or Netduino, you'll need to make some modifications to the shield.
When you're just getting started, it's useful to use hardware which others have used, and for which there is sample C# code.
What are you thinking of building? Or are you just testing things out to start?
Welcome to the Netduino community,
Chris
