Hello,
I'm a newbie that's got nearly 30 years of programming experience. But none of it is with Netduino, Arduino, or anything else like it. So in my desire to learn something new, a few weeks ago I got an Arduino. All is well with that but I'm not too fond of the IDE. And Arduino is quite limited with ram etc. So when I saw Netduino with significantly more ram, a faster core and Visual Studio, a real IDE with debugger too, I decided to give it a try.

1) I started by downloading both C# Express and VB Express.
2) Then I loaded .NET Micro Framework SDK v4.2, (I think - Porting Kit 4.2 (RTM QFE1) ) linked from here: http://forums.netdui...?showtopic=2768.
3) Last I loaded netduinosdk_64bit.exe from the same link.

They all seemed to install properly. In both C# and VB, when I create a New Project, I see "Netduino Application" as a template. But when I double click it, I get this error:
"The Project file 'C:\Users|xxx\AppData\Local\Temp\abcdefgh.ijk\Temp\Netduino Application1.vbpj' cannot be opened. The project type is not supported by this installation".
Where abcdefgh.ijk is always a different random character string.

What am I doing wrong? I'm fairly certain I need to change a library setting somewhere, but not being to familiar with Visual Studio products, I don't know where to look.

Any help getting me started would be great. I'm particularly interested in getting VB running.

I'm really excited to get this going. Being a model railroader, I can see a gazillion uses for Netduino.

Oh yea, Win 7 64 bit.

Thanks,
Dave H

Could this project be for VB instead of C# etc. Or a different year than the year currently installed. Nvm. Didn't read your whole post until after i posted.

Hi Davheili, You want the .NET MF 4.2 QFE1 SDK, not the PK. Download a copy of the .NET MF 4.2 QFE1 SDK and you should be good to go. Chris

Thanks Chris. That seems to have done the job. I got "Blinky" working in C#. But VB gave me the followin error "Cannot deploy the base assembly 'mscorlib', or any of his satellite assemblies, to device - USB:Netduino twice. Assembly 'mscorlib' on the device has version 4.1.2821.0, while the program is trying to deploy version 4.2.0.0. Does that mean that something on the Netduino is set for only 4.1? I ask because when I changed C# blinky to 4.2, it kicked an error back at me. And when I tried to change to 4.1 in VB, it also refused, but with a missing DLL error, or something like that. Is there a bootloader on the board that needs to be changed to 4.2? How do I do that? I can't wait till I understand this stuff. My ignorance is unbelievable. Thanks
