I'm a newbie that's got nearly 30 years of programming experience. But none of it is with Netduino, Arduino, or anything else like it. So in my desire to learn something new, a few weeks ago I got an Arduino. All is well with that but I'm not too fond of the IDE. And Arduino is quite limited with ram etc. So when I saw Netduino with significantly more ram, a faster core and Visual Studio, a real IDE with debugger too, I decided to give it a try.
1) I started by downloading both C# Express and VB Express.
2) Then I loaded .NET Micro Framework SDK v4.2, (I think - Porting Kit 4.2 (RTM QFE1) ) linked from here: http://forums.netdui...?showtopic=2768.
3) Last I loaded netduinosdk_64bit.exe from the same link.
They all seemed to install properly. In both C# and VB, when I create a New Project, I see "Netduino Application" as a template. But when I double click it, I get this error:
"The Project file 'C:\Users|xxx\AppData\Local\Temp\abcdefgh.ijk\Temp\Netduino Application1.vbpj' cannot be opened. The project type is not supported by this installation".Where abcdefgh.ijk is always a different random character string.
What am I doing wrong? I'm fairly certain I need to change a library setting somewhere, but not being to familiar with Visual Studio products, I don't know where to look.
Any help getting me started would be great. I'm particularly interested in getting VB running.
I'm really excited to get this going. Being a model railroader, I can see a gazillion uses for Netduino.
Oh yea, Win 7 64 bit.
Thanks,
Dave H
