Hi. I'm new to the Netduino products and really want to get started working with the Netduino Plus. I've been doing a lot of research on using an Arduino for a projects I want to build, but noticed that getting the Ethernet shield, etc.. the cost is about the same (if not more) than the Netduino Plus. I'm also familiar with coding in C# and with the ability to use Visual Studio and debug the code is a real benefit to me.
I want to be able to produce my project when it's done and I don't want to buy the Netduino Plus @ $59/each it get's a bit pricey. I noticed there are some board layout and schematic downloads for the Netduino Plus, but I have not looked at them. Basically I'm wondering if I can build my own Netduino PCB board?
1. Are these files available for download a Eagle PCB file?
2. Where do I get the parts list?
3. How much would some of you estimate the cost to build my own Netdunio Plus myself (parts & PCB)? I can etch and solder all the parts (even surface mount).
4. With an Arduino I can get the Atmel chip preloaded with the Arduino bootloader or buy the chip and put it on myself. What about the Netduino controller?
My project will involve having a small web server app running. From what I've read it seems this is somewhat trivial on the Netdunio Plus as compared to the Arduino due to using the Micro .NET framework. Any comments/truth to that?
Lastly, I would like to eventually use WiFi instead of having the Netduino Plus hard wired. Is there a shield that will provide me this capability that will play/work nice with the Netduino Plus?
Thank you very much for your time!
Best Regards,

- No, it is created in Cadence PCB design tool. You can use Allegro FREE Physical Viewer to inspect them (download requires e-mail registration).
- I am not sure the free viewer has any 'export BOM' functionality, I guess the full version has.
- It depends on how many units you plan to make, how expensive are the parts you can source etc. If you want to make single quantities, you'll have to pay $20 for the microcontroller itself and about $10 for the Ethernet connector and magnetics.
- AT91SAM7X has bootloader (SAM-BA) in ROM.

Hello DataCrypt,
I thought about doing what you want to do, but partly I stopped persuing building my own Netduino Plus because I was not able to source the network stuff from the usual sources.
Tell me where to source the parts (in the U.S.A.) and I'll take this up again.
Clearly building your own will not be cost effective, but fun just the same. I'm all for it.
