Hot off the press... http://netmf.codeple...ases/view/82448 We'll be testing this update with Netduino and updating the firmware to RC5 over the next week or so. Chris

Hmmm...perhaps "4.2"?
Biggest fault of Netduino? It runs by electricity.

Quick Field Engineering

I like that even better. I believe that Microsoft's official meaning is "Quick Fix Engineering".

In summary, similar to a service pack--but with much smaller changes--and rolled out without all the intense testing required for a major release or service pack.

Please note that we've already rolled most of the patches from QFE1 into the RC4 firmware. There are a few new ones, but this won't be as big of an update as RC3->RC4 was. :) Chris

So to get QFE1 fixes we need to wait for SL to release RC5?

Also, I like yours better, 'Quick Fix Engineering'!

Most QFE1 fixes are in RC4. Two or three (including the revised PWM object model) will be in RC5.

Is there a finite date when we shall have final release of .NET MF 4.2? It is more than 6 months now, I am not sure what is holding Microsoft from doing that. What I mean it is still RTM ("release to manufacturing" or "release to marketing") not GA (General availability or general acceptance).

And one more, if it is RTM why is it not comming on Netduino?

Hi Vishal, .NET MF 4.2 went to RTM already (and now to post-RTM quick-fix-1), but there are a small handful of bugs to squash still. We're holding it in "RC" status until the community consensus is that it's ready to ship. There was a lot of great progress made in QFE1, so I'm hopeful that it'll be ready soon. [Most of the issues we're seeing are related to PC-specific driver interaction issues. For most users, the 4.2 RC4 firmware is the best release to date.] Chris
