I have installed visual web developer 2010 express from the Web Platform Installer from the asp.net website.

Next I tried to install the Micro Framework from the files on this site, and recieved an error stating that Visual Studio 2010 or Visual Web Developer 2010 needed to be installed. I went to the microsoft micro framework site and downloaded and installed that framework files and it installed perfectly.

Finally I installed the NetDuinoSDK files and they installed without error.

So I started the getting started guide and verified the install steps and proceded to create a new project. I clicked New Project, selected Visual C# then Micro Framework and selected the Netduino Application template and clicked OK.

BANG! Error says following:

The project file
'C:\Users\[my username]\AppData\Local\Temp\zbj530mo.Inx\Temp\NetduinoApplication1.csproj' cannot be opened.

The project type is not supported by this installation.

How can I get beyond this error and start developing? The template files are where they should be and my VS settings for projects is the correct directory.

When I installed Visual Web Developer 2010 Express I selected Typical install. Everything works, as I have created and built a couple other projects with no probs, just cant create a project with the micro framework template.

Hi Travisty, Welcome to the community! You'll need Visual C# Express, not Visual Web Developer Express. Chris

I had the same error with premium. Quick reboot and reinstall of 4.1 and all was well.

I have the same problem but I have VS Express C#, not the web dev version. I have reinstalled the micro framework and VSE 2010 twice with no luck. I get the same error when I try to open any of the samples too.

Hi Mr_Scott,

Thanks for the post, and welcome to the Netduino community!

Let's see if we can figure this out for you.

Is there any chance you could post a screenshot of the error?

Also, are you running Visual C# Express 2010 (not 2008)?

Chris

The error listed above is the text of the error verbatim. I am using Visual C# Express 2010 and MicroFramework 4.1 but I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional on my dev machine also. I am at work as of this writing so when I get home tonight I will re-create the error and post it here.

Okay, I'm an idiot. I had uFx 4.0 instead of 4.1 installed. It's working now. Thanks for the help.

I just installed Visual Studio 2010 C# Express, installed the Micro Framework Porting Kit 4.1, and the 32-bit Netduino sdk as linked at http://www.netduino.com/downloads/. I'm getting the same error when either creating a new Netduino project or when opening an existing project. Please note that I do not (yet) have actual Netduino hardware to plug in. Is this required, or can I start developing against the emulator?

Fixed. The Micro Framework Porting Kit is not what you want. You want the Micro Framework (http://www.netduino....rameworkSDK.msi). The link on the get started PDF seems to be incorrect.
