Can I have both .NET MF 4.1 and 4.2 installed, or do I have to remove 4.1 to use 4.2? -Valkyrie-MT

Step 1. Uninstall 4.1
Step 2. Install 4.2 RC1
Step 3. Choose either 4.1 or 4.2 in your projects (the 4.2 SDK has both!)

:)

Are there any MFDeploy steps to upgrade the Hardware? or is this downloaded in debug from C# Express?

Hi Earthed,

Are there any MFDeploy steps to upgrade the Hardware? or is this downloaded in debug from C# Express?

Yes, to update to 4.2 you'll need to use Atmel SAM-BA to flash the bootloader and then MFDeploy to flash the .NET MF runtime.

The instructions in this post are for the SDK and for migrating projects. For upgrading your actual board, please refer to the instructions that come with the firmware update (check the sticky posts at the top of this forum).

Please let us know if you need any other guidance. It's really awesome that we can update these open source boards...but it may take a minute to follow the instructions on how to do so.

Hi Chris, I was really struggling for quite a while to find files and instructions for the rest of the steps to complete a full 4.2 RC1 install: so have posted below for everyone's benefit (for NetduinoPlus only - but others similar): (1) Firmware: http://forums.netdui...mware-v420-rc1/ (2) SAM-BA Bootloader step by step: http://wiki.netduino...ep-by-step.ashx (3) MFDeploy Steps - Flashing the firmware: http://wiki.netduino...ep-by-step.ashx PS: The web site search tool really struggles sometimes to find certain search expressions, which is why things where hard to find at times. (no specifics recorded)

Hi, I uninstalled v micro framwrok 4.1 and installed 4.2 but when I start a new netduino project, the target framework is set to 4.1 by default and I have to save the project and manually change it to 4.2 every time... - very annoying... :-( Any chance to tell the visual studio to use 4.2 RC2 as a default? thanks

Hi maara, This should be fixed with the final release of the .NET Micro Framework 4.2 and Netduino 4.2 SDKs (coming soon). BTW, welcome to the Netduino community! Chris

The have already posted RC2, so here is the direct link to RC1:

http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

FYI: These links take you to 4.1 SDK, not 4.2 RC1.

Yeah, I realized that some time after I posted the links, just did not get a chance to get in here to edit them.
I cannot find a link to RC1 any more, I am going to install RC2 and see how it works out.

Why cant someone start a file download thread where everyone can post the bin files or other files in one location? I have literally clicked a hundred links and still cannot find the correct files even under threads marked for 4.2 stuff. We need a thread for just file attached or direct links. In my opinion.

The latest beta firmware is a sticky post at the top of this forum:
http://forums.netdui...-netduino-plus/

The SDK installer is on the downloads page (under Netduino Go):
http://www.netduino.com/downloads/

I'll see what we can do to consolidate all of the beta and release upgrades...

Awesome. Thanks for such a quick response. I can hardly wait to start with this stuff, I have five arduino boards and a literal ton of electronics supplies so I want to code in vb using the stuff I already have. Thanks again for the response/help.
