I've been trying to flash two netduino minis after erasing them by applying 5v to the gold pad for a few seconds but SAM-BA is unable to connect to them.

I have tried 2 different approaches none of which work: using a RS232 cable and using a USB->RS232 conversion cable.

  • I'm running Windows 7 (32 bit)
  • The netduino mini is powered using 5 volts from a FTDI USB cable through pin 21 + GND (I also tried powering it through VIN with 9 volts)
  • I'm using SAM-BA CDC 2.10
  • The COM ports on the computer are configured @ 115200 / 8 / none / 1 / none
  • I've tested that the serial cables are good in TeraTerm
  • The RS232 cable on the computer is connected to the RS232 port on the netduino (pin 1 & 2 + ground)
Still, sam-ba_cdc starts, prompts for the port / board (at91sam7x512-ek) but never connects to the mini. It just hangs in the background indefinitely.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Fabien.

PS: this never happens flashing a regular netduino / netduino Plus: SAM-BA always connects fine.

Hi Fabien, Are you running the 64-bit version of Windows 7 or the 32-bit version? SAM-BA 2.10 has issues with some 64-bit machines using serial ports. SAM-BA 2.09 may help. Chris

I am also experiencing this problem.

I have a Windows 7 32-bit box. I have tried SAM-BA 2.09, 2.10, and 2.10 CDC to no avail.

My cables work fine and I am able to debug and deploy to mini's using MFDeploy with firmware already loaded. But when I do the gold erase pad and try to load a new firmware using SAM-BA over RS232, I have the same problem as Fabien.

The interesting part about this is that I used to be able to do this just fine with no problems using both 2.09 and 2.10!!!

Any possibilities a Windows update messed something up?

Right now I have two non-functional mini's that I can't reflash the firmware using SAM-BA. I only have one working with 4.1.0.6 and I really wanted to upgrade them all to 4.1.1.7.

Any suggestions?

EDIT:

Similar to Fabien, I have no problems reflashing the firmware of a Netduino (regular) or Netduino Plus using SAM-BA.

I made sure I was using the 32-bit version of Windows 7.

Have SAM-BA 2.09 and 2.10 (non-CDC) been taken down from Atmel's site or am I missing something?
EDIT: I did locate a version of the Atmel tools on this site: http://www.at91.com/...M/SoftwareTools
Yet, it's always a CDC version of the tools.
