Hello all,

I'm new to electronics and netduino.  I have a netduino plus 2 and am enjoying learning.  Thus far I've created my "hello world" with a red LED and a button to turn the light on and off.  What I'm wanting to accomplish is opening my garage door via the wall switch.

The common wire in the wall puts out 25v with 3.6 mAmps.

What I've tried.:

3.3v power 820ohm resistor in Digital Output 7.

Push button control.

I'm also turning on the red LED.

I know that the code is correct what I don't know is if I have to somehow supply the full 25v to the receiving wire along with the 3.6mAmps in order for the signal to be sent to the control board?

I hope my question makes as much sense as it does in my head :P

Thank you

Dave

Hi Dave,

Generally and not specifically: if you are trying to replace a momentary switch (i.e. one that connects the circuit temporarily, I would look at relays (or contact closures) which convert a digital signal into a higher-voltage switching action. The digital pins on Netduino are simply meant to send/receive signals, rather than tie into high power systems directly.

Does that help get you pointed in a good direction regarding learning?

BTW, welcome to the Netduino community!

Chris

Important note: we officially advise against building things which could malfunction and cause damage or loss to property or life. Netduino is open source, and open source gives you the freedom to create. But it also gives you enough freedom and power to cause problems. We care about you and your property, so please be safe.

Chris,

Yes this does help, and I appreciate your advise, which is why I posted to the board before moving forward.

My approach on learning is by digging in and doing.  I'm a software architect with 20years of experience and the maker community is new to me, however I will be safe :)
