I would like to deliver the nd3wifi boards with my sensors attached to my paying customers.

Why method is available for them to select their router and key in their wifi password?

Surely I am not the only person with this requirement?

Thank you for your thoughts.

So I am googling around on this topic and I find this great TI wifi chip that has WiFi Provisioning, just what I need...

http://processors.wi...xx_Provisioning

<snip>
Wi-Fi provisioning is the process of connecting a new Wi-Fi device (station) to a Wi-Fi network (access point). The provisioning process involves loading the station with the network name (often referred to as SSID) and its security credentials. The Wi-Fi security standard distinguishes between personal security, mostly used in homes and businesses, and enterprise security, used in large offices and campuses. Provisioning a station for enterprise security usually involves installing certificates, which are used to verify the integrity of the station and the network by interaction with a security server managed by the IT department. Personal Wi-Fi security, on the other hand, needs to be handled by users at home, and it simply involves typing a pre-defined password. To provide robust security, the password can be as long as 64 characters.
</snip>

...and I think I will include this chip on the board that I will eventually get into production...then I come back here and do some more reading and low and behold...the nd3wf has the chip...TaDa!!!

But it is not enabled according to this forum post.

So I put my vote in for Chris to spend this weekend getting this feature enabled. :)

Hey Terrence,

NETMF doesn't have a method to do this for Wi-Fi (i.e. all network setup is done through MFDeploy/MFDeployEngine). We're really reticent to create functions which unnecessarily add incompatibility outside the NETMF core...but this looks like a scenario where extending the standard classes makes sense.

Are you looking for a scenario where the user can use your Netduino as an AP, connect and give it Wi-Fi credentials? A scenario where your Netduino acts as an AP (i.e. only two devices on the network)?

Or are you just wanting to be able to programmatically enter the Wi-Fi credentials via code?

I've got a similar request. I have a project in mind where the device will be embedded without an external USB port for the user to plug into, but would need to have a way to connect as a normal wifi device to their (probably encrypted) network. at the moment, i'm working on my prototype, and just using my home network, so it doesn't have to change after I set it up with mfdeploy. however, when/if this thing goes public, it'd be really good to have some way for the user to be able to select the network to use and enter their password without opening the case.

Hi,

There is something called WPS PIN.

Where the client has a fixed PIN and you can enter that number on the routers page to register the device maybe that is something you could use.

Linksys has a page on it.

http://www.linksys.c...ticleNum=143300

Not sure if the current wifi chip onboard would allow this.

Regards

Olaf
