Still trying to wrap my head around all the options I'm seeing discussed out here. As I'm sure everyone does, I really enjoy the modular design to the GOBUS approach.

I recently jumped in and bought a Netduino 3 with WiFi (up and running last week with Hello World stuff).  Now that I'm cruising these boards more often, I still see a lot of discussion of Netduino GO board, and am confused on where each board sits in the lineup.  I'm happy with the Netduino 3 I bought, has what I need (attached 2 buttons and a buzzer via GOBUS).

From what I can tell, the Netduino 3 is the most recent board, and is the GO board older?  Although I have a direct link to the specs for the GO board, it does not appear in the lineup from the main netduino page. Is the fact that the Netduino 3 board has GOBUS ports on it - an indication that it's the newest and combines those ports with other things like WiFi?

So basically - just wondering if someone can provide a little bit of history of where the GO board fits in (if at all) along side the other netduino boards in today's landscape.

Thanks!

Hi volleynerd,

You are correct that the Netduino Go is a bit older (originally released in 2012) and the Netduino 3 is the most recent Netduino (released only a few weeks ago). I covered a bit of the Netduino Go's history in my blog post/review here.

Chris will probably be able to tell you more about the Netduino Go's future, but my understanding is that it's only temporarily missing from the main product lineup page. It's still receiving firmware updates, support, etc. at this point.

If you're only using Go modules, need more than 3 GoBus ports, and don't need Wi-Fi or Ethernet, the Go mainboard is still a good choice. Otherwise, I'd choose the Netduino 3 :)

Hi volleynerd,

As Matt mentioned, Netduino Go is still a current mainboard and fully supported. As we ship more GoBus modules, some community members will probably have projects in mind that would benefit from a purely plug-and-play/modular approach. Netduino Go is perfect for that.

A lot of projects will want to mix-and-match modules with raw components and Wi-Fi. For that Netduino 3 Wi-Fi is your best option today.

A lot of this is just a matter of preference. But technically speaking, Netduino 3 Wi-Fi is our flagship model today. So if you're looking for the most power and flexibility it's a really good bet.

Chris
