Hi,
I've been reading a bit in the beta forums, about this, but I'm unsure what the status is.
If I don't care about debugging, is it possible to use the USB cable for both power on, and to communicate with a PC?

Can I communicate and power over usb, at the same time?

I had same question once, you can power it up using micro usb, not sure about communication through it. But I used UART1 of netduino instead with FTDI cable. #3Posted 13 February 2015 - 10:16 PM
Well, I really want to just use 1 cable (the usb). #4Posted 17 February 2015 - 07:25 AM I bought a NetDuino 2 just to find out this answer. I read little bits in different areas that seem to suggest this is possible. So I've been playing around with the UsbController. However when I try to use the example UsbHidEchoNetduinoApp it doesn't work and I'm not sure why at the moment. It actually throws an exception when calling CreateUsbStream on the usbController object. Then after that I need to use the NetDuinoUpdate.exe to Erase the App and make it work again with the USB debugger. Not sure how to make it work with serial debugging at the moment.
I'd really like this question answered since my thinking was that it was possible. Running a separate power source just to boot up the device seems kind of hacky. I'm trying to figure it out, so if I succeed I'll be back here.
Edit: Oh I have a NetDuino Plus and one thing I'm certain of reading through the forums is that it is not possible with that device since it has some hardware limitations and it can't be upgraded to firmware 4.3.1 as of this writing. 4.1 only supports the UsbController hardware and it cannot re-enumerate. 0 user(s) are reading this topic0 members, 0 guests, 0 anonymous users | ||||||||||||||
