I was interested in the driver less communication mentioned in http://forums.netdui...tion-using-usb/, but that requires using beta firmware v4.1.1.0 b1 which is from 3 years ago. I was wondering is this feature made it into v4.2 or v4.3 because I want the feature, but I don't want to revert to firmware from 3 years ago? I was trying to find mention of it in the patch notes of the newer firmware releases, but found no record of it.

Hi _Elias_,

We'll be bringing this feature to the 4.3 firmware on gen2 boards. It's currently item #3 on our major task list. We should get to it in the near future.

For the record:
1. Netduino 2/Netduino Plus 2 v4.3.2 firmware (with a giant chunk of new code).
2. Netduino Go 4.3.2 firmware
3. USB driver upgrade

In the meantime, using the gen1 hardware with the beta firmware can lead to some really fun HID devices.

Chris

Thanks for the clarity Chris, I am new to the Netduino community; I have mostly used Arduinos and Raspberry Pi's, but I can definitely say I'm impressed with my Netduino Plus 2.

Yes, I am very interested in this too!

There was an article on MSDN, by Donna Morse, which is actually the very reason I got into Netduino: http://msdn.microsof...e/dn605878.aspx

Chris, can you expand a bit on the changes for the three top points, or maybe you keep a change log when released? I am just curious is all (no "demands" ;) ) , and it's nice to know of any changes that may affect current code, or updates that removes the need for custom code.

Thanks for all the cool things!

(That's Donn, not Donna, Morse. LOL)

Hi Robert,

Sure, we can post a change log when the updates ship. We typically note the new features and bugfixes along with the firmware update posts.

Thanks for reading Donn's posts, by the way. They're very well written (and produced--with videos)!

Chris

P.S. No changes should be required to your code with the new updates. We're aiming to be as backwards compatible as possible with every new feature and every new release.

Yes, I was more hoping that you had some revealing hints about the updates. :)

And another agreeing yes, because I like the specific information in that article. No (additional) drivers is awesome!

Which brings me to another question which perhaps should be a topic in itself, but either way, here we go... Netduino Go, and the Gadgeteer devices, any relation? I ask because I see those same hardware connectors (or at least they look like them) on the Gadgeteer mainboards.

Robert you can connect certain gadgeteer modules to the GO.

There is even an gadgeteer adapter hub like module in development that will allows you to attach more modules.

Cheers

Hey Robert,

Netduino Go and Gadgeteer aren't related, but as Olaf mentioned there is some opportunity for backwards-compatibility with the legacy Gadgeteer gear.

They do both use the same standard IDC connector and the same standard perfboard dimensions.

On updates...for Netduino 2 and Netduino Plus 2, the Netduino 4.3.2 firmware is primarily focused in on smoothing out rough edges, most notably a giant amount of work which has gone into improving the built-in networking stack. For Netduino Go, the big update will be GoBus 1.5 support (which is needed to support a half dozen or so new modules that are currently queued up and eager to ship). The USB update is on our radar either for 4.3.2 or for a follow-up update.

When you say "legacy Gadgeteer gear", does legacy in this context refer to Gadgeteer or gear (or both)?

Is the Gadgeteer project no longer viably alive or active?

Hello!

And what about (still) doing this with Netduino 1 devices? I've been interested in trying it out since the idea of making it work with a thing running Windows RT was mentioned in a thread.

I recall that the steps to make it work were indeed unique.

Hi Chris

Any update on when we can expect the netduino 2 4.3.2 firmware?  i.e. the firmware that will support the USB-HID feature that was present in 4.1.1 beta.

USB-HID is a critical feature for us.  If you're looking for guinea pigs, then I'd be happy to be a beta tester.

Also, will this also remove the requirement to have a separate power supply for the N2?

Does the 4.1.1 beta firmware support the N2?  i.e. is there any N2 firmware release that supports USB-HID?

Hello!

And what finally happened regarding getting such functions available for the Netduino version 1 device? While I'm not against attempting to flash older firmware on the board, and then participating in a modified "Moscow solution" (Basically the person doing that closes his eyes and prays that it works. Oddly enough the same is true of a regular "Moscow solution".)

My only complaint would be in applying it......
