Hello guys. I am really bad at electronics so I have a basic question probably.

I am using PIR motion sensor connected to Netduino Plus via ports 5V, GND and D0. After I added Seeed GPRS Shield on top of Netduino Plus and then connected my PIR sensor to the exactly same pins the sensor stopped working and inaccessible through code.

What am I doing wrong and how to properly connect PIR sensor with the shield? I can provide more details if needed.

You'll need to pick different pins for the signal lines - by plugging the PIR into another digital input (say D8) and adjusting your code.

You should be able to share power and ground for these devices but the Neduino doesn't supply a lot of power so external supplies are sometimes required. Remember to connect the Ground (GND) of the external supply to the Ground of the Netduino otherwise you'll have problems. Also if you have devices with high current needs (e.g. motors) you will need an external supply.

I2C devices (I don't think that either of yours are) can be tricky - you'll need to add resistors to the various signal lines.

FYI - I'm a beginner too. It can be really frustrating... but great when you make some progress.

I tried D8 pin for PIR and adjusted the code. It doesn't work anyway.

According to GPRS Shield spec (http://www.seeedstud...PRS_Shield_V1.0) this port should be unused.

I am not sure where I should connect Ground and 5V wires of my PIR to the shield. Probably that is the case.

Also I am not sure whether I need extra power supply for GPRS Shield like a battery or 12V DC. I am using the shield only without any problems, but maybe PIR requires some extra power.

I've used the V2 GPRS shield pretty extensively and they are pretty close. You shouldn't need additional power if you only have those two things connected. Once I added an LCD with backlight is when I started needing extra power.

My suggestion would be to use pins 3 or 4. I _think_ D8 can be used to reset the GPRS shield so try another.

What about 5V and Ground pins? Are they were at the same place as on Netduino itself?

5v, 3.3V and GND remain in the same place.

Thank you guys. The problem was only with power source. I have added extra power to the GPRS shield and all went fine. Pins were the same and, by the way, I used D8.
