I have ordered a Netduino Plus which should be here next week. I have a programming background with web, windows and WPF using Visual Studio C#. However, my experience has been is that you still need to do some reading in order to jump in a begin coding for a new .Net C# platform. I did a search of the Netduino Forums to see if anyone had started a discussion of Netduino specific books and other general books about .Net Micro Framework 4. I didn't find anything so I thought I would ask. I see that this book is Netduino specific and has been suggested to read: Getting started with the Internet of Things http://my.safaribook...72/chapter-2/20 I also found this book about .Net Micro Framework: Expert .NET Micro Framework, Second Edition http://apress.com/book/view/1430223871 From the Microsoft site I found this book: Embedded Programming with the Microsoft® .NET Micro Framework http://www.microsoft...57&locale=en-us Also from Amazon.com I found this book: .NET Micro Framework http://www.amazon.co...95137048&sr=1-4 If soemone was to buy two books that would give them a excellent getting started with code code examples: a) would they be from the above list or have you seen something better? B) how would you rank some of the above book best to worst? c) Is there anything in the downloadable pdf or ebook that are free and would be a great (excellent) starter Thanks, John Feeney

I would recommend "Getting Started with the Internet of Things" as your #1 choice for Netduino Plus. I have read "Expert .NET Micro Framework" and it is pretty good as well, although more generic and some of the content only applies to the high-end ($200+) boards. I have never heard of the last book before. I'll have to get a copy. Cool. Chris

Actually, if you're already familiar with .NET I'd recommend something low level. I haven't read the above books, but I imagine that they concentrate about netmf. Netmf is not an old experienced framework. It's a PC framework that recently is putting its feet into the embedded world. And so the embedded world is not best learned through this. I don't know of any really good book for this purpose though.

+1 on "Getting Started with the Internet of Things" - you can download an early edition from Safari (for about 12 USD). Not quite sure about that last book - it says "High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles!"? Does that mean that all the content is from wikipedia.com?

This page has a good explanation of this odd phenomenon (summary: don't waste your money).
