They haven't touched the networking code.

Would have been imprudent for someone who is newly responsible for such a non-trivial code base to first change the most difficult parts. It makes sense that they started off with some lower-hanging fruit, in order to get comfortable with the software.

CW2, thanks for the post! And thank you to the NETMF team for all you work getting this out the door... Chris P.S. NETMF 4.3 QFE1 is the core for a wave of bugfixes. There are some other bugfixes coming--which will be hot-patched into the firmware and checked into future repository versions.

@ Chris Walker

Can you elaborate on what you mean by a "core for a wave of bugfixes"? Do you mean Microsoft has planned a series of minor QFE2, QFE3 etc. releases? Or are you referring to plans of your own to check in your bug fixes into the MS repository?

As far as we are concerned, we will offer our own bug fixes to the 4.3 code base to Microsoft for check-in, once our beta phase is over. Long-term tests at various actual customer sites seem to indicate that our networking fixes are solid (also see the results of the "Great Network Shootout" at the GHI forum).

Hey Cuno, We've been working with the NETMF team to get bugfixes into the 4.3 core over the last year. Some of those made it in time for QFE1 (including the critical interop bugfix). Some of them will be rolled into new NETMF and/or Netduino firmware releases. Thank you for the bugfixes that your team will be contributing as well. NETMF is a collaboration, and we're here to celebrate all the contributions from the core tech team. Chris

A quick heads-up on the .NET MF 4.3 QFE1 release: .NET MF 4.3 QFE1 is actually .NET MF 4.3.1, and it is a *replacement* for .NET MF 4.3. This is a bit different from how QFEs have functioned in the past. If you try deploying to a Netduino 4.3 beta (4.3.0) board using the QFE1 (4.3.1) SDK, you'll get a version mismatch...so for those who are eager to install the latest bits...we'll have an updated firmware release by this weekend.

Excellent news.

@Chris - do you have any contact details you can share so we can keep the pressure on for the bug fixes?

Hi Juzzer, I would recommend filing bug reports through the CodePlex site--and posting on the NETMF Support forum. The best thing to do is show them how much you love NETMF and how much you're using it and how much trouble a particular bug is causing you. There are a lot of customers using NETMF out there--so feedback will really help focus engineering resources to where they benefit the most developers and most end users. Chris

Chris,

Does this have impact on the new GO modules and their release dates?

Cheers Olaf

Olaf--this now gives us the final green light to start sending some new GoBus modules off to production :) geduino--we'll look at Netduino Plus 1 and .NET MF 4.3 QFE1 this week and see what can be done. If we can shoehorn it in, it will likely reduce the amount of code and/or RAM space available for you. Stay tuned. Chris

Yes and let us hope this will finally make our Netduino GO come out of the dustbin.

beastyboy -- NETMF 4.3 QFE1 is going to be really good for Netduino Go users :) Just FYI, here's the gameplan: 1. We're going to update Netduino 2 and Netduino Plus 2 to 4.3 (hopefully as RTM very soon). 2. We're also looking at updating Netduino 1, Netduino Plus 1 and Netduino Mini to 4.3. We're working on that now. It may take a bit, and we may release them individually if/as they're ready. 3. Netduino Go is going to get a bit of a 4.3 beta program of its own very shortly, and will be coming out of beta in the spring. We need to wait until the first new GoBus module or two makes it off the assembly line before starting the beta (as we've been working on some cool new capabilities--which require the free firmware upgrade). More on that soon. Chris

It will be a public beta. We've written a lot of new code this last year. We need to get the Netduino 2 and Netduino Plus 2 firmware updated, with the updated SDK first...then we can push these new modules into production and started the beta program. P.S. Thank you for your enthusiasm! :) Chris

Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but I remember reading on the forums that the GO's Ethernet module has already been built and that they only need to be flashed with the latest version of .NET MF.  If that is the case, would it be possible to release the Ethernet module earlier than GoBus modules that still need to be assembled?  What would the timeframe be for the Ethernet module if that was the case?
