For all the experts out there, a really Basic problem installing the SDK for a new Netduino GO! board:

[1] Per instructions on Netduino website, I first installed "Microsoft Visual C# Express 2010", followed by ".NET Micro Framework SDK v4.2",and finally "Netduino SDK v4.2.2.0 (32-bit)" on a laptop running Windows XP

[2] The Netduino Go module when plugged in resulted in Windows identifying a new object and successfully installing the drivers.Blue LEDs flashed.

[3] Opening up Visual C# 2010 Express and selecting "Netduino Go Application" after a few moments results in a crash and message: "The project type is not supported by this installation". The Microsoft HELP indicated that the failure was caused by the missing SDK ??

Attempts to fix:

(a) reinstalled Netduino SDK v4.2.2.0 in repair mode - no effect, same crash, same error message

(B) de-installed everything, re-installed everything - no effect.....

Any suggestions?

Hi jhbickel, Welcome to the Netduino community. Sorry for the troubles; let's see if we can get you up and running here. In Visual C# Express 2010, do you see the standard .NET Micro Framework projects (console, class library, etc.)? Or only the Netduino ones? If you select one of the standard NETMF ones...do you get the same error? If you don't see the standard ones, then there's something wrong with the NETMF 4.2 SDK installation. Be sure that you're using the QFE1 or newer installer...which should in theory be the default download. Another option is to install VS2012 Express for Windows Desktop, the .NET MF 4.3 SDK, and the Netduino 4.3 beta SDK. That will still let you develop apps for 4.2 boards, although it is technically beta and not quite ready for release yet. Does that help get you up and running? Chris

Thanks for offer of assistance.....

Yes. The following show up:

- Windows Forms Applications

- WPF Application

- Console Application

- Class Library

- WPF Browser Application

- Empty Project

I tried opening "Empty Project" it works. "Console Application" also sets up and works. The problem seems to be with the Netduino SDK??

Hi jhbickel, Those apps are Windows apps, not .NET Micro Framework apps. :) Can you take a screenshot of the screen where it lists the Netduino project types, and attach it here? Chris

The discussion forum does not easily allow attaching graphics.

The list of installed templates on my Visual C# 2010 Express window reads as follows:

Netduino Application 1 Visual C#

Netduino Application 2 Visual C#

Netduino Go Application   Visual C#

Netduino Mini Application  Visual C#

Netduino Plus 1 Application  Visual C#

Netduino Plus 2 Application  Visual C#

--- when I highlight "Netduino Go Application" and click OK, I get the crash message.

Another nuance:

On the Visual C# 2010 Express start page under Recent Projects it lists "Netduino SDK Installer". When clicked it also crashes as generates an error message: "To open it, please use a version supports this type of project"

This leaves me to believe the current Netduino SDK Installer was created using a more advanced version of Visual C#

Hi jhbickel, From that...somehow the .NET Micro Framework SDK isn't registered with Visual Studio. The Netduino templates are installed...but they depend on the NETMF SDK itself and Visual Studio doesn't understand what to do with them. I would recommend uninstalling and reinstalling everything (in this order: VC# Express, VC# service packs, NETMF 4.2 QFE2 SDK, Netduino 4.2 SDK. Or upgrade to VS2012 Express for Windows Desktop. I know that's a pain...but it's probably the simplest resolution. Does that get you up and running? BTW, thanks for sharing your experience too eplaksienko. Chris

Seems like I did this whole de-install/re-install once before.

I'll try it again and report back ......
