The big questions for me though is - where's the Ethernet? I very much doubt this has been overlooked though. Adding an SD card should be easy with a module, so no worries there.
I guess you can expect gadgeteer like modules for all of that and a lot more. The on-board microprocessor from ST has a LOT of features integrated, of which Ethernet is one and USB OTG, USB device and SDIO are others. Check out the datasheet for more info: http://www.st.com/in.../DM00037051.pdf
Ok, so from the Amazon footage the NGO board has 8 IDC bays with 2x5 = 10 pins on each of them. If the very nice "auto module identification, detection and configuration"-feature we saw in the video survived to production, some pins would be reserved for identification purposes.
Given headroom for the number of different modules you'd expect, the id-interface would be serial and not parallel. So let's say 2 pins are used for this (could be 1-wire though) and then add another 3 pins for 3.3V, 5V and ground for module supply. That would leave up to 5 pins for other stuff that would be more or less automatically configured as either SPI, I2C, analogue, digital I/O or other depending on the specific module you attach to each bay.
Am totally off here or does this seem feasible enough?
I don't know if general MS Gadgeteer functionality includes this "auto-module-id" feature but it would surprise med very much if the NGO won't be Gadgeteer compatible allowing for not only NGO specific modules to be connected but a large number of OEM Gadgeteer modules as well.
Either way, looks like we're all in for a good treat!

Hah! Yours will arrive the same day as mine, but will have serial number 00000002
(just kidding they've probably sold dozens by now)
The lcd touch screen by nwazet wont get here as quickly, since it is coming via UPS ground. Probably Monday.
This is my first "duino" platform. I'm coming over from parallax/propeller land, but as a former Microsoft engineer, I'm looking forward to trying out the .net micro framework.
