Connecting with WEP (key vs. passphrase)

My Netduino 3 wifi won't join my network with WEP security enabled. The led changes from yellow to green but I can't ping it and it isn't in the list of attached devices. It joins properly when security is off and the network is open. I haven't tried any other security modes. Help...
Are you using your WEP passphrase (ASCII) or your WEP key (HEX)? Can you try using the other one really quickly?
Also...are you using WEP Open or WEP Shared?
I'm guessing that you are connecting to the network but not authenticating. WEP requires an interesting two-step procedure sometimes which can leave devices in limbo.
Chris
P.S. There are online tools (search results: 1 and 2) for converting between WEP keys and passphrases. I wouldn't use these due to security concerns.
P.P.S. Have you considered WPA/WPA2? I know that some older devices can only support WEP--but WPA2/PSK offers much more modern security.

Thanks for the lightening response!
I am using WEP open 64 bit encryption.
I tried passphrase.
I tried HEX key.
I tried open, none, and shared.
I tried SSID hidden and broadcast.
I notice that mfdeploy defaults to 2048 bit network key. I change it to 64 bit but it converts back to 2048...
No luck so far.
I prefer to stick with WEP if possible.

I think I may see the problem here, and it may be an issue in how MFDeploy is giving you the option to set a passphrase or a key--and then how that data is interpreted in NETMF's config sector.
Here is what you should do. Go into MFDeploy's Network Config settings. Then...
- Type your SSID into the SSID textbox.
- Select WEP encryption from the Encryption pulldown.
- Type your 10-digit HEX key into the Pass phrase textbox.
If that still fails, please change your network from WEP Open to WEP Shared temporarily--and let me know if the green ACT LED turns on or not. Once you have a valid connection, try setting your router's WEP setting back to WEP Open (so that you have some extra security).
The AP I have access to right now doesn't support WEP (since WEP security is basically broken by this point) but we can get a Wi-Fi AP to test this next week if the above doesn't work for you.

I configured as you requested with the same results.
Changed the router and ND3 to WEP Shared. The ACT led stayed yellow.
Switched back to WEP open. Led turned green.
Thanks,
Barry

Okay, if you changed to WEP Shared and the ACT stays yellow, then that means there's a configuration issue going on.I configured as you requested with the same results.
Changed the router and ND3 to WEP Shared. The ACT led stayed yellow.
Switched back to WEP open. Led turned green.
Could you please take a screenshot of your network configuration in MFDeploy (changing the SSID and key values--to values of the same length and type--so that you're not giving out your actual network credentials) and post here, so we can see exactly how you're entering the network configuration?
If everything looks good there, the next step is to get an access point which supports WEP and diagnose here.
Thank you,
Chris

I've attached a screenshot of MFDEPLOY. I hope...
